Arlene Ellen Shields, Died peacefully June 17th, 2017 in Columbus, Ohio. Arlene Ellen Shields, was born in Brooklyn NY; June 9th, 1940. Arlene was a true Mets fanatic. She converted many Yankee fans to the Mets over the years. Arlene was a talented artist who loved to dance, draw, read, bowl, collect crystals, and listen to Elvis. She had a smile that lit up any room and possessed an entertaining sense of humor in any situation. Throughout her life she maintained a tenacious demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many people, who even now are being changed because of her constant love and unwavering faith in them. Arlene’s door was always open to all her children’s friends and neighbors. She was happiest when surrounded by her loved ones. Arlene found true love in life, through her 6 children, 10 grandchildren, her numerous cousins, and friends who she adopted as family. Possessing an absolute faith in God, Arlene faithfully raised her children as a single mother in New York. Prior to moving to Ohio, she lived in Raleigh, NC. After graduating Deans List from SCC with Psychology Degree in Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counseling. She furthered her work with Alcoholics anonymous for 30 years to help others better their lives. She could often be heard telling her loved ones to “pick up there big girl/boy pants and make it happen.”  Arlene is predeceased by her Mother, Alice Donnelly, Father George Petty, and younger Sister Alice Ann Donnelly. Arlene is survived by: her 6 children, Kevin (Maureen) McAlister, Bryan Jones, Angela Thompson, James (Diana) Donnelly, Patrick Shields, and Kerry Shields. Arlene’s 10 grandchildren include; Kathryn, Emily, and Matthew McAlister; Shawn Long; Amanda and Nicole Thompson: Briana, Samantha and Jennifer Donnelly; and Matthew Taylor. Lastly she leaves behind her grand fur-baby Beijo Shields whom she loved to sneak pancakes. Arlene was loved more than she ever knew. She leaves behind a timeless legacy of love. Arlene’s youthful spirit and laughter will greatly missed by all. We will cherish the Good memories we had with you mommy.
