Joan Marie Beitman, RN, MSN, FNP-C, 63, of Westerville, OH passed away on Sunday, April 7th.

Born June 29, 1960, in Woonsocket, RI to Peter and Patricia Santoni, Joan grew up in Towson, MD. She attended McDonogh High School where she was a member of the first graduating class to include female students. After graduation, she attended the University of Lynchburg and graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1982.

Joan married her best friend, Phillip Beitman, on August 6, 1983.

In 1995, Joan, Phillip and their two children moved to Westerville, OH where Joan later attended Otterbein University. She graduated with her master’s in nursing with Sigma Theta Tau Academic Honors in 2006 and became a nurse practitioner. She was an active member of the Ohio Association of Advanced Practice Nursing and American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

While she spent her career working in various hospitals and clinics in Maryland and Ohio, her favorite position was being a Certified Nurse Practitioner in the Endocrinology Department of Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

After retiring, Joan enjoyed creating greeting cards and other crafts and started her own card business, Joan’s Best Wishes. She also loved spending time with her family, especially her four grandchildren.

Joan was preceded in death by her father, Peter C. Santoni and her sister, Marianne Santoni. She is survived by her husband J. Phillip Beitman, son Michael (Emily) Beitman, daughter Katherine (Cody) Toney, mother, Patricia A. Santoni, sisters Lori Santoni and Nancy (Nicholas) Georges, grandchildren Ella, Logan, Ruby, and Graham, two nephews and a niece.

Funeral services will be held in Maryland this summer. Memorial donations in her name may be made to the Arthritis Foundation and the Alzheimer’s Association.
