Obituary for Marlin Weisenbarger

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Marlin R. Weisenbarger, who left us peacefully on March 13, 2024, while surrounded by his loving family at the age of 65, after a month-long battle with pancreatic cancer. A long-time resident of Westerville, Ohio, Marlin was known for his selflessness, boundless energy, and an unwavering dedication to his faith, family, friends, and community.

Born in Greenville OH, and raised in Arcanum, OH, to Betty (Sleppy) and the late Carl Weisenbarger, Marlin was a beacon of light in the lives of those he touched. He leaves behind a loving family: his mother, Betty; siblings, Mark (Teresa) Weisenbarger, Myra (Rick) Ary, and Myron (Rochelle) Weisenbarger; his devoted sons, Zachary (Allison), Benjamin, and Lucas (Chloe); and his cherished grandchildren, Henry, and Theodore.

Marlin’s academic journey at Wright State University, culminating in a BS, MS, and MBA in Finance and Applied Economics, laid the foundation for a successful career at JPMorgan Chase & Co., and Peoples Bank. Though impacting many in his professional career, it was Marlin’s passions outside work that defined him. As a passionate sports aficionado, he devoted countless hours to his love for volleyball, cycling, pickleball, and tennis. Marlin’s lifelong commitment to volleyball not only earned him the affection and respect of many, but also established him as a beloved ambassador for the sport within Ohio. More than his hobbies, Marlin’s character shone brightest through his actions. He was the embodiment of selflessness, always placing others' needs above his own and fostering countless friendships from all stages of his life.  Even amid a hectic life, he always found the time to give back to others.  He dedicated himself to various acts of service, from coordinating blood drives with the Red Cross, to volunteering at the Children’s program at Heritage Christian Church to spread the word of God. Perhaps closest to his heart was his commitment to volleyball, where he spent many years coaching at both the collegiate and high school levels.  Through these efforts, he left a lasting impact on his community, embodying a spirit of generosity and mentorship.

The Weisenbarger family will receive friends and family for a viewing on Thursday, March 21, 2024, from 3-7 p.m. at the Hill Funeral Home (220 South State Street, Westerville, OH). A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Heritage Christian Church (7413 Maxtown Road, Westerville, OH) where friends and family are invited to remember a man who lived fully, loved deeply, and left an indelible mark on the hearts of many. A burial will follow at Blendon Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pelotonia to continue the fight in ending cancer, honoring Marlin’s lifetime commitment to helping others, alongside his passion for cycling.

Marlin R. Weisenbarger’s memory will forever inspire us to live with generosity, kindness, and an enthusiasm for seeking adventure throughout life. He will be profoundly missed but lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.
