Stanley Henderson Murphy, age 84, of Westerville, passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville. He was born on June 22, 1936, in Flagstaff, Arizona to Guy Henderson, COL USA (Retired) and Elizabeth (Kilborn) Murphy. Stanley served in the Korean War before attending Hiram College and finishing his Bachelors’ Degree in Business at The Ohio State University in 1962. He worked for more than 40 years at Gardner, Inc., in Columbus, before retiring as the Director of Purchasing in 2005.
Stanley was active in several Masonic Orders through the years. He held the office of High Priest with Horeb-Wright Chapter #3 and was recognized as a Royal Arch Mason by the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Ohio. He participated in the Apollo Dramatic Chapter of the State of Ohio during his time as a High Priest. He was also recognized as a Sir Knight by Mt. Vernon Commandery No. 1 of the Knights Templar. He was also a member of the Grand Council Royal & Select Masons of Ohio and was active in York Council No. 115 and ZABUD Council No. 99. He was a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and achieved the 32-degree designation. Finally, Stanley was active in Blue Lodge and was a Past Master of Blendon Lodge No. 339.
Stanley enjoyed gardening and its’ related activities. Most years he would start his own plants from seed. He also enjoyed canning the fruits of his labors and presenting them to his friends and neighbors. He instilled an appreciation of nature and hard work in all three of his sons. He enjoyed home improvement projects both small and large and frequently had several going on at the same time.
Stanley was preceded in death by his wife, of almost 56 years, Margery on September 11, 2019 and their youngest son Jeffrey Andrew on January 15, 2013. Stanley will be deeply missed by his remaining family; son Gregory Henderson, daughter-in-law Jani Ruth (Frye), granddaughter Delaney Mae, and grandson Grayson Henderson; son Sean Michael and son-in-law George Louis Hofferbert; son-in-law Cliff Lavender (preceded by Jeffrey); brother Joseph Murphy LTC USA (Retired), of Leavenworth, Kansas and family.
The family is honoring Stanley’s wishes to be cremated with no additional services.
