Obituary for Phyllis Condrey

Phyllis Condrey 1943-2023

Phyllis Condrey

09/23/1943 - 12/01/2023

CONDREY, Phyllis Hall, b. September 23, 1943, passed from this world on December 1, 2023, reuniting with her husband, Gene, the love of her life, who recently died on March 17, 2023. A native of Powhatan, Virginia, Phyllis worked for Bell Atlantic (Verizon) Telephone Company and Central Virginia Bank before retiring in 1994.

Phyllis and Gene shared 54 years of marriage and raised their only child, Kimberly (married to Daryl Kinney of Richmond, Virginia), who moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1998. While in Virginia, Phyllis enjoyed camping Bayside in Mathews County on the Chesapeake Bay, where she spent most of her weekends bike riding, reading and enjoying time with family and friends.  Upon hearing the news that they were to be grandparents, Phyllis and Gene moved to Columbus in 2011 to welcome the birth of their first grandchild, Haydn (12).

To Phyllis’s delight, their second grandchild, Riley (9), was born on Phyllis’s birthday, September 23, in 2014. Phyllis loved her family with all her heart and cherished her time as “Nanny” for her grandchildren. She commonly read to Haydn and Riley, played cards/puzzles with them, and sewed a seemingly endless supply of clothes the children would tear during their play dates. Typical of Phyllis, she spent her last day with her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren, talking and laughing. She passed with them by her side, knowing she will remain forever in their hearts as a mother, grandmother, “Nanny,” caregiver, avid reader, expert cook, confidant, and friend. A private service with immediate family only will be held at Hill Funeral Home on December 8, 2023.
