Grandma Dee,

You were the spunkiest of Grandmas (and great-grandma). Always exuding class and grace. I loved my weekend visits with you and Grandpa. The house was always full of beautiful items that you meticulously picked to display. Right down to your exquisite Christmas Trees. I’d spend hours exploring the gardens you cared for and loved.
My favorite memories include sitting on the enclosed porch, swinging with you in the hanging chair, listening to you play the piano, and singing along with the music on the pianola. You always laughed at me every time the cuckoo clock chirped and my face would light up.
You were strong and bold. Always poised and dressed from head to toe. You always did what made you happy, including never missing a hair appointment. I admired the fire inside you. I only hope you knew how much I enjoyed my childhood with you.

Eternally spunky, we will miss you!

Allison & Kennadee Younger

Obituary for Dolores Younger

Dolores Younger 1930-2023

Dolores Younger

04/02/1930 - 09/07/2023

Dolores L. Younger of Westerville passed away peacefully in her sleep after a long battle with dementia on Thursday, September 7, 2023. Dolores was 93 years old. She was born on April 2, 1930 to the late Helen (Parker) and William Davis in Columbus, Ohio.

Dolores (Dee) was a proud 1948 graduate of Central High School; a member of The Church of the Messiah United Methodist Church; a past member of the Westerville Garden Club; and an active member and Past President of the Women's Auxiliary, Franklin County Chapter, Ohio Society of Professional Engineers.

Dee had a passion for music and sang in her school and church choirs (Oakland Park United Methodist Church) for many years. She loved the old hymns but her favorite was In the Garden. At 93 she still knew every word and sang it during one of our visits with a huge smile on her face. Dee was fortunate to be a stay-at-home mom for many years allowing her to be active in the PTA and school functions and was the leader of Girl Scout Troop 76. She was very creative and designed and stitched dancing costumes for her daughter and other dance students. She loved to sew and, believe it or not, loved to iron. She loved ironing so much that she took in ironing and actually enjoyed every minute of it. She loved flowers, birds and her fur babies; Molly, Mimi, Bridget and Sophie.

In her later years, Dee was employed by the City of Columbus where she met the "love of her life ", David Younger. They were married in 1981 and spent 42 wonderful years together. Dee enjoyed a loving life with David by sharing in the building of a beautiful summer home in Apple Valley where they found great pleasure and relaxation. Dee had a flair for home decor and both of her homes were immaculate and tastefully decorated. She took great pride in her homes. Dee and Dave's Westerflora Award Winning Garden that they designed together was something to behold. It was like sitting in an amazing botanical garden. Dee was very crafty and made beautiful handcrafted items for her friends and family. Dee loved decorating for Christmas. Her trees were always unique and beautiful. She loved collecting dolls and had a lovely collection of bells.

Dee and Dave loved their many trips into Amish Country and enjoyed being around both sides of the family, especially the children.

Dee is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved grandmother, Melissa Wright; her step-daughter, Jill Younger; her brother-in-law, Donn Younger; and her dear friend, Rose.

She is survived by her loving husband, David Younger of Westerville; her daughter, Lynn Campbell (Norman) Lyons; Granddaughters, Melissa Frair and Tricia (Pete) Gomia of Westerville; Great Granddaughter, Kaitlyn (Connor) Horan of Sunbury; Great Grandson, Michael Gomia of Westerville; Great-Great Grandchildren, Hailey and Cooper Horan of Sunbury; Stepchildren, Craig and Laura Younger; Granddaughters, Allison and Shae Younger; Grandson, Colin Younger; and Great-Granddaughter, Kennadee Younger, all of Las Vegas, Nevada; nieces; and longtime friend, Jane Smith.

Visitation hours will be Tuesday, September 12, 2023 from 4-6 p.m. at the Hill Funeral Home, 220 S. State Street, Westerville, Ohio. Funeral and Celebration of Life will be on Wednesday, September 13, at 12:30 p.m. at Hill Funeral Home. Interment will be at Union Cemetery, Columbus, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America or charity of your choice in Dee's memory.

Special thanks to the staff at Capri Gardens, Lewis Center, Ohio and Bella Hospice Care for their love, compassion, support and care to Dee and our family. We were truly blessed.
