David Miller

03/23/1939 - 08/26/2023

David W. Miller, age 84, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 26, surrounded by his dedicated wife and children after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. David was born on March 23, 1939 in Chillicothe, Ohio to Willard and Sarah (Knapp) Miller. After high school, he graduated from Bailey Technical School in St. Louis, Missouri, which led to a lifelong career in electronics. He spent forty-nine years at Ohio Semitonics, Inc., retiring in 2013 at the age of seventy-four as a vice president.

David married his loving wife of 60 years, Sharon (Phillips) on February 10, 1963. When they married, he gained a little brother in Alan Phillips (Cathy). David and Sharon have three children: Craig Miller (Christine), Joanne Durbin (Michael) and Amanda Smerdel (Carl). He loved to be surrounded by his seven grandchildren: Derek Miller (Kate), Jamie Gregory (Logan), Samantha Durbin, Jared Miller, William Durbin, and CJ and Cate Smerdel. He is also survived by his brother Jerry Miller (Judi), sister Janet Goebel, and brother-in-law Gene Oliver. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jimmy Miller, his friend and father-in-law, M.L. (“Phil”) Phillips, his brother-in-law Jerry Goebel and sister-in-law Dianna Oliver.

David greatly enjoyed his job and during his long career at Ohio Semitronics, he created thousands of standard and customized electronic measurement products. He loved fishing, woodworking, playing cards, gardening, Ohio State football and if something was broken…he could fix it! He was a steadfast part of many people’s lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The funeral service will be held at Hill Funeral Home (220 South State Street, Westerville, Ohio 43081) on Saturday, September 2. Visitation will be from 10-11:30 AM with the service following. The burial will be immediately afterwards at Blendon Central Cemetery (6630 South Hempstead Road, Westerville, Ohio 43081).
