Obituary for Jason Hopkins

Jason was a man from Mississippi who survived hardship in his life. He moved to Ohio to be close to his aunt and uncle and earned a college degree, married a woman who loved him wholeheartedly and always had an eye on a bright future.

“… and then the fire in the shed got so big, I was actually relieved when we got caught because I knew we were in over our heads.” It was Jason’s favorite childhood story to tell around friends and family. He would tell this story every time he started reminiscing on the old days. Jason had a way of looking back and laughing at the lessons he learned and making us laugh too. He cared deeply about his friends and family and would have wanted us to remember all those times of mischief, drama, and laughter.

Jason had many moments during his life in which he reflected on how happy he was. May the people who knew Jason, who loved Jason, know how meaningful that is, and find peace.

With the deepest sadness, he leaves behind his loving wife, Molly Hopkins; his mother and step-father , Mary Ann and Wendell Scarborough; his grandmother, Betty Lou Boyles Modlin; and his brother, Jesse Guy. He will be forever missed by his Ohio Family, Robert (Sr), Donna and Robert (Jr) VanCourt, as well as his cousin Bethany Janusz and her husband Stephen Janusz; his mother- and father-in-law Jane and Cloyd Hildebrand; and his brother- and sister-in-law Jason and Katie Waugh. Family that will mourn the loss of Jason includes his uncle and aunt Randy and Marika Modlin, and their children Maranda Poen and Joey Modlin, as well as his nieces and nephew who he loved dearly.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Jason to NAMI of Franklin County at namifranklincounty.org. A private celebration of life will take place in the future.
