Obituary for Anthony "Tony" Petrowsky, Jr.

Anthony "Tony" Petrowsky, Jr. 1947-2020

Anthony "Tony" Petrowsky, Jr.

09/24/1947 - 07/20/2020

Anthony (Tony) Petrowsky, Jr., of Galena, passed away July 20, 2020, in Grant Hospital after a brief illness.

Tony was born in Chicago to the late Anthony Sr. and Sybil (Bonner) Petrowsky. After graduating from Southern Illinois University (B.S.) and a brief stint in Marine Officer Candidate School, he received an M.S. in civil/structural engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He then embarked on a 44-year career managing engineering design aspects at nuclear power stations in Illinois, Georgia, Florida, Wisconsin, and Michigan, until finally settling in Columbus. He was Director of Engineering when he retired from American Electric Power in 2016.

As a young man Tony served as a volunteer firefighter in Villa Park, IL. He always loved the outdoors. He was an advanced scuba diver, loved riding motorcycles, and enjoyed playing tennis. Indoors he loved nothing better than a family movie night complete with popcorn or baking cheesecake or lasagna with the twins. On his own he enjoyed flying airplane simulators, or building a computer from scratch, or just reading a good book. Recently he became an ardent bread baker.

Tony was a parishioner of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Sunbury. He leaves behind his wife Iryna (Soltys); children twins Mark and Daniel, Ross (Melissa) Petrowsky of Cumming, GA, and Amanda (Keith) Wedgworth of Wellington, FL; sister Marie Nordstrom in Florida and sister Patricia (Patti) Dulla and brother Ted in Chicago. He will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, and friend.

A private service of Christian burial will be held on Monday, July 27, 2020, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Sunbury at 10:30 am. Interment will follow the service in Resurrection Cemetery in Lewis Center. Services will be live streamed on Youtube.
