Our beloved Alicia “Kika” Chaves and her husband Cameron Pytel passed away in a tragic accident in Florida on December 31, 2014. Alicia was born in San Jose, Costa Rica into a large and loving family on October 10, 1958. Alicia came to Columbus Ohio to study at the Ohio State University (OSU) from which she obtained a Master degree in 1995 and where she pursued a Doctoral degree. She became a member of the faculty of the Columbus Academy in 2003, where she taught Spanish. She met Cam, also an OSU alumnus, while studying her Masters. He was the love of her life -- they were married for the last 15 years. Alicia and Cam were made for each other. They lived a wonderful life together. They departed this world at exactly the same instant, and will eternally continue being together in the blessed presence of their God and creator. Alicia’s last text to some loved ones was “ Life continues to be beautiful” and it will be for the people that knew Alicia because she had the most generous and beautiful smile which illuminated places and people’s hearts with the light that only the kindest and purest of souls could emanate. We will miss her presence and smile sorely but take consolation in our memory of the great joys she gave us and in our certainty that her soul is resting in peace next to that of the man she loved. Alicia our “Dancing Queen” and her loved husband will be remembered forever. She has now joined her father, Rodrigo Chaves, in heaven and is survived by her mother, Alicia Robles de Chaves, her sisters Ileana P. (Dr. Eugene S. May), Ana Cecilia (Johnny Soto), Anabelle, Silvia (David Jones), Cinthia (Matt Feldmaier), her brother Rodrigo, her nieces and nephews Laura Simpson (Rod), Dr. Froylan Gonzalez, Hillel Athias (Meyer Fedida), Johnny Soto, Camila and Thomas Jones, Daniela and Jacob Feldmaier, Tatiana and Isabella Chaves, her great nieces Sofia and Natalie Simpson, Rivkah, Lea and Hannah Athias. She is also survived by aunts, uncles, and cousins. Visitation for both Alicia and Cam will be on Friday January 9th from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 9pm at St Paul Catholic Church, 313 N State St., Westerville where Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 AM, Saturday followed by a private family interment. The Rev. Fr. David Gwinner Celebrant. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Columbus Academy Financial Aid Fund in honor of Alicia’s strong believe and passion for education and her love for Columbus Academy and every one of her students.
