Carlton E. Francis, age 80, of Westerville, Ohio passed away quietly among family and friends Thursday, October 23, 2014. He was born in Newark, Ohio, son of the late Carlton and Blanche Francis. In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Nan and siblings, Joseph and Arthur Francis. Carlton, known as Gene among family and friends, is survived by his two sons, Carl Francis and his wife Debie, and Mike Francis, and his Grandson Paul Francis and wife Jennifer. Gene is survived by his nephew, Art Francis and family; niece, Debbie and family and sister-in-law, Sue and family. Gene is also survived by his Companion and extended family Marge Napier and her daughters Leeann and Michele. Gene was a Korean War Era Air Force veteran who retired from the Federal Department of Transportation as a Chief Air Traffic Controller at Port Columbus International Airport in Ohio. He was an electrician, auto mechanic, wood worker, and all around “go to guy”. Friends and family depended on him to keep things running though-out the neighborhood. Gene was not only father to his own children, but also to those of his siblings’ children, and the children of his extended family. He served faithfully and tirelessly as his departed wife’s caregiver for over 20 years before her passing in 2009. No matter the obstacles his physical ailment threw at him, he fought hard to live life to the fullest until the peaceful cessation of his body released him to move on. His character and virtue was reflected in how he cared about and assisted those who needed him. He was a man all men should aspire to be like and his departure should make us work hard to keep our lives joyous. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. till the time of funeral at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at HILL FUNERAL HOME, 220 S. State St, Westerville, OH 43081. Burial will follow at the Blendon Township Cemetery.
