Obituary for Ida Mae Carrier

Ida Mae Carrier 1922-2018

Ida Mae Carrier

12/22/1922 - 08/14/2018

Ida Mae Allen Carrier, Age 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep August 14, 2018 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Paula and James Thistlewaite, Westerville, where she had made her home for 20 years. She was born on December 22, 1922 in Sharon, Pennsylvania, daughter of William E. Allen and Ethel M. Thomas. She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul F. Carrier, and her son, Keith A. Carrier. She leaves behind to cherish her memory loving daughters Paula (James) Thistlewaite and Donna (Mark) Sherrard, grateful grandchildren Sarah (Brian Davey) Thistlewaite, Paul (Rebecca) Carrier, Melissa (Thomas White) Sherrard and Charles B. (Marissa) Sherrard, great granddaughters, Olivia Carrier, Addison Carrier and Rosalie Davey, and several nieces and nephews.

She was a retired secretary and a graduate of The Detroit Business University. She sold war bonds during WWII. Vocal music was her passion and she studied voice at the Detroit Institute of Musical Art. A life time member of the Welsh North America Association, and the Welsh Society of Central Ohio, she also volunteered at the Welsh Home in Rocky River, Ohio for many years when she and her husband lived in Bay Village, Ohio, where they raised their children. She was raised in the Baptist Church and held on to her faith all her life.

She loved her family above all else. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She taught us all through example and her family will try to live by them. She loved roses and daylilies and had an herb garden for many years, making her own potpourri. Her favorite color was green. Some of her and her grandchildren’s, fondest memories are of the summers spent at Lakeside. She had a beautiful singing voice and could be heard singing in her room along with some of the hymns she loved. Her mind was clear until the end and she had her opinions. She loved history and knew more about every religion than most people.
