Obituary for Marguerite "Evelyn" Becker

Marguerite "Evelyn" Becker 1926-2018

Marguerite "Evelyn" Becker

05/21/1926 - 01/05/2018

Marguerite "Evelyn" Becker, 91, passed away peacefully the evening of January 5th, 2018 with family at her side after a short courageous battle with cancer. The number of lives she's touched and the legacy she leaves is impossible to describe. Born May 21, 1926 to Verne and Bridget (O'Sullivan) Love in Queensland, Australia. At the age of 20 she left her beloved family and country aboard a freighter bound for America to reunite with her U.S. serviceman (Army Air Corps) husband, as did hundreds of young Australian "war brides". She reunited with the love of her life, Lou, in Columbus and Evelyn's impact on central Ohio began immediately. Her ability to make friends and be a positive influence on all she met was initiated. After her 72 years here in America it would be impossible to find a single soul who crossed her path that would not describe Eveyln as the best sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, confidant, mentor.....person they ever had the pleasure to meet. In addition to her parents and her husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by her 2 very beloved sisters, Veronica and Mary. She is survived by daughter Paula (Dick) Laird; grandchildren Jim (Katie) Laird, Maggie (Jason) Neely, and Elena Laird; great grandchildren Chase, Kylie, Luke, Brady, Liam, and Melanie; as well as many neices and nephews and their families in Australia who loved their "Auntie Ev". On January 5th the world became just a little bit darker and heaven became just a little bit brighter. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church Thursday, January 11th at 10;30 AM. A reception will be held at the church, following the Mass at 11:30. A private family burial is being planned for a future date in Evelyn's final resting place next to her beloved Lou in Glouster, OH. Donations in Evelyn's name can be made to Recreation Unlimited, 7700 Piper Road, Ashley, OH 43003, or the charity of your choice.
