Visitation will be Thursday, July 13, 2017 at HILL FUNERAL HOME, 220 S. State St., Westerville from 4:30 until 7 PM. followed by services at 7 PM.

 

I am so sorry for your loss. Dennis made my activity work fun by dancing with me , taping down shuffle board; making detailed works of art and laughing at all my stupid jokes.I applaud his family for taking care of this great man and allowing Dennis to be himself. He loved the political joke cards sent from his family. He loved the outdoors and he remained a family member first, a liberal, a man of religion, and one who loved to dance and laugh.

Dennis John Ring age 75 of Westerville, Ohio died on July 11, 2017 at Columbus Alzheimer Care Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 10, 1942 in Marion, Ohio to the late William Joseph and M. Virginia (Warnement) Ring. Dennis graduated from Marion Catholic High School in 1960 and from St. Charles Seminary in Columbus in 1964. He was ordained a priest for the Columbus Diocese in May of 1968 and was assigned as assistant pastor at Christ the King Church in Columbus and Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Grove City. He also served as Director of the Diocese of Columbus Planning Office under Bishop Edward Herrmann helping to create the Vicariate system and co-authoring the publication, "Parish Council Guidelines". He also served as Director of St. Therese Shrine in Columbus. Dennis became employed with Gates-McDonald Co. in Columbus in 1978 as a program planner and then with Nationwide Insurance where he retired. Besides being an excellent finish carpenter, he also spent much time involved with the local work of BREAD, an interfaith coalition that lobbies for social justice. Dennis was a loyal worker with the social service group, Project WARM, serving the Westerville area. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Maureen "Marty" (Hasbrook) Ring and his children, Richard (Christin) Ring of Cranston, Rhode Island and Kristy (Tim) Leigh of Westerville, Ohio; grandchildren, Noah and Isaac Leigh; James and Hope Ring; brother Walter (Jane) of Lancaster; sister-in-law Bonnie Ring of Brownsburg, IN; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother William J. Ring Jr. and sister, Mary Jo; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Jo Hasbrook. The family wishes to thank the many people who cared for Dennis at the Columbus Alzheimer Care Center and Capital City Hospice of Columbus. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Westerville Area Resource Ministry or to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund at curealz.org. Calling hours will be held at the Hill Funeral Home 220 S. State St., Westerville on July 13, 2017 from 4:30 - 7:00 pm with service following at 7:00 PM.
