Obituary for Carl "Butz" Meyers

Carl "Butz" Meyers 1925-2017

Carl "Butz" Meyers

07/16/1925 - 05/13/2017

Carl (Butz) Meyers, loving husband of 70 years to Edith, passed away May 13, 2017 at his home, with his beloved Edie by his side. Preceded in death by son, Mike Meyers and survived by daughter-in-law, Kathryn Meyers and daughter Sheryl, of Newark Ohio. He was the best grandfather ever to Michael (Tammy) Meyers; Marcy Meyers; and Amanda (Erik) Blevins; and Tony (Ashley), Rob, Paul, and Sarah; as well as a great grandfather to twenty grandchildren. Carl is survived by many nieces and nephews and best friends, Bill and Ruthie Goldsbury of Gahanna, OH. Carl was born on July 16, 1925 and grew up in Columbus’s historic German Village. He joined the Navy at the age of 17 and spent 4 proud years in service. He was a life-long learner regarding WW2 and was the Grand Marshall for the Sunbury 4th of July Parade in 2012. He was an excellent bowler and golfer and loved to camp and fish, taking many trips to Canada with friends and family. Carl & Edie were two of the first ‘year round’ campers at Berkshire Lake campgrounds and camped there for nearly forty years. Carl was a welder and machinist and worked into his eighties, because “retirement wasn’t for me” until he was summoned to do the most important work he would ever do: take care of Edie. Viewing will be Friday, May 19, 2017, 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m, at Hill Funeral Home, Westerville, OH, with burial immediately thereafter at Northlawn Memory Gardens. The family wishes to thank Capital City Hospice, WARM, The Sugar Grove Family, and all who cared for Carl and those who stopped by to brighten his day. You did make a difference.
