I was utterly stunned and horribly saddened when I found out about Mark's passing. From the moment I met him in my 8th grade history class at Walnut Springs during my first year of teaching, I knew he was a unique and amazing individual. I remember that entire class because they were such a collection of talents and personalities. Mark relished in Monty Python-esqued humor - which helps explain why we got along so well, and his witty sense of humor was always good for a daily laugh. He generously donated to my classroom and left the most touching comment in the process. Mark left a mark on my early teaching career, as he did on the lives of so many. He will certainly be missed.

Obituary for Mark Aseltine

Mark Aseltine 1987-2016

Mark Aseltine

10/20/1987 - 12/09/2016

Mark William Aseltine,  age 29, died unexpectedly on December 9th,  in his home in Bellevue, Kentucky.         Growing up in Westerville, Mark was very active in the music and drama programs at Westerville North High School, was a member of the Westerville Christian Church and earned his Eagle Scout Badge.       As an undergraduate at the University of Cincinnati, he was active in the Phi Delta Theta fraternity,  and went on to earn his  MBA  from Xavier University.   Mark traveled through out the country with the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey's Greatest Show on Earth, working as a paymaster on the circus train.    Returning to Cincinnati, Mark's analytical mind helped him thrive as an Enterprise Analyst and a Category Manager for the Anheuser Busch Corporation.     Anyone who came in contact with him was immediately a friend, and his kind and caring nature was never hard to see. Whether it was the art of the deal, tailgating with friends, or sharing long conversations, Mark never shied away from engulfing those he loved with everything he had. A dear friend noted, "He was a  massive force of nature, a black hole that drew hilarious, brilliant people to him".  He will be remembered for his hearty laugh, enveloping hugs, fierce loyalty, generous spirit, keen savvy and sharp wit that he never kept to himself.   He is survived by his parents, Ted and Lynn (Macy) Aseltine, brother David Aseltine;  grandmother, Gwen Aseltine;  aunts and uncles Richard and Ronny Aseltine,  John and Lynne Settlemyre, Rod and Martha Darrah;  cousins,  Rick and Ginny Aseltine, Virginia Settlemyre,  Tommy Settlemyre, Arch and Amanda Grieve, Jason and Sara Darrah, along with Carter and Mason Darrah.  They will miss him more than words can express, but they take comfort in knowing that his strong Christian faith brought him to his eternal home in heaven.   Family will receive friends 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 PM Friday, December 16, 2016 at WORTHINGTON CHRISTIAN CHURCH, 8145 N. High St., Columbus, Ohio where services will be held at 1 PM Saturday. Interment will take place on Monday. Time to be announced.
