Visiting hours will be held at HILL FUNERAL HOME, 220 S. State St., Westerville, Ohio on Saturday May 14 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Following visiting hours, a service will be officiated at 3 pm by Pastor Char Schultz at the funeral home.

Sylvia Barrett Raica, age 94, of Westerville, Ohio passed away May 3, 2016. Sylvia was born in Demorest, Georgia in 1921 and later attended Piedmont College and Georgia Baptist Nursing School. She then enlisted in the Army's nursing program during World War II, becoming a registered nurse (RN) and 1st Lieutenant. She married Captain Robert Raica who was wounded in France and sent to recover in the Nashville, Tennessee hospital at which Sylvia was stationed. In the latter 1940s, they settled in Westerville, where Bob graduated from Otterbein College. Sylvia was employed for many years as the Director of Nursing at the Elmhurst Nursing Home, as well as the Westerville Convalescent Center and Riverside Methodist Hospital. She served as a volunteer for St. Ann's Hospital for numerous years. She was an avid reader and flower gardener, volunteering for many years at Innis Wood Gardens. Sylvia was a life long member of the Church of the Master United Methodist Church in Westerville. Sylvia is predeceased by her husband Bob Raica; daughter Julie Raica Gartenberg; her parents John Robert and Bessie Barrett; her sisters Dair Smith, Weir Almond, Doris Love, Gail Lewis; and her brother Bron Barrett. She is survived by her son George ( Marcy Rozak) Raica, Lauree ( Gil Black) Raica, and many nephews and niece. Visiting hours will be held at HILL FUNERAL HOME, 220 S. State St., Westerville, Ohio on Saturday May 14 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Following visiting hours, a service will be officiated at 3 pm by Pastor Char Schultz at the funeral home.
