Katherine Pearl Montgomery 1921-2014

Katherine Pearl Montgomery

06/17/1921 - 06/29/2014

Katherine Pearl Gossett Montgomery, formerly of Wilmington, died June 29 at Worthington Christian Village in Columbus, Ohio. She was 93. Born in West Monroe, La., Katherine was the daughter of Harry and Etta Gossett. She served as a WAVE during World War II, and met her late husband, Orville Montgomery, while stationed at the Navy hospital in Millingon, Tenn. Married for 62 years, Katherine and Orville lived for much of that time in Delaware, where Orville was an engineer for the DuPont Company. Katherine worked for several years as a nurse in Wilmington, but the role that gave her the greatest satisfaction and joy was as mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her kindness, generosity and devotion to family were an inspiration to all who knew her. A deep and personal faith always guided Katherine, who most recently attended Grace Polaris Church in Columbus. She will be remembered with love and gratitude by her five children and their spouses: Betty and Paul Cichy, of Langhorne, Pa.; Ruth and Terry Beschta, of Lewis Center, Ohio; Bill and Tamara Montgomery, of Newark, Del.; Jim and Judy Montgomery, of Cochranville, Pa.; and Jack and Jodi Montgomery, of Altadena, Calif. Katherine was a loving grandmother to Jessica, Anne Marie, Ben, Dan, Jason, Alex, Alison, Doug, Neil and Christie; and great-grandmother to Katherine, Megan, Grant, Gage, Leslie, Sydney, Monty, Logan, Isaac, Dylan and Lilly. A private service and burial will take place at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glasgow. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hill Funeral Home in Westerville, Ohio, and Mealey Funeral Home in Wilmington, Del.
