Mrs. Baker is a very important part of the Bannister family. Our two families found each other by moving to Westerville in the early 70's and forged the kind of meaningful friendship that is very rare. Mrs. Baker and our mom Linda were at the center of our special bond...both raising kids and families and the two of them formed a friendship that spanned more than 40 years.

The entire Bannister family mourns with Carol, Charlie, Cathie, and Brian for their loss. We also feel so fortunate that our families found each other and became such close neighbors. Your mom has always been the example. We celebrate Ann Baker!

Obituary for Ann Baker

Ann Baker 1934-2015

Ann Baker

10/10/1934 - 05/15/2015

Baker, Ann (O’Reilly), 80, of Westerville, died peacefully after an extended illness. Born in Kingston, NY to Dr. Charles J. and Catherine (Lodge) O’Reilly, she was a graduate of Marymount College, Tarrytown NY, where she earned a degree in elementary education and taught impoverished children a love of learning, as she gave selflessly to them. Dedicated to her own four children, she spent a lifetime as a mother and caregiver before working for H & R Block for a decade in a low-income area, serving those in need once again. Ann loved reading and gardening and was a longtime member of her condo community’s landscape committee. She had been a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church since 1974, where she found strength in her faith community. Ann was also a devoted Buckeyes fan, but most of all, she was devoted to and loved her family, and she took profound joy in spending time with them all together. Preceded in death by the love of her life, Charles A Baker, whom she married June 28, 1958; brother, Lt. Charles E. O’Reilly; sister, Natalie (O’Reilly) Rakov; her loving parents; and other extended family members. Survived by her children, Carol Beavin of Westerville; Charles A., Jr. (Donna) of Clearwater, FL; Cathie (Jay) Boone of Powell; Brian (Nancy) of Ashley, OH; sisters Mary (O’Reilly) Feeney of Hurley, NY, with whom she shared a double wedding, and Cathleen (Duke) Deegan of Highlands Ranch, CO; brother, Edwin O’Reilly of NYC; sister-in-law, Cynthia [Baker] (Charles) Counsil; brother-in-law Peter (Marie) Rakov; grandchildren Brooke Morgan; Chad (Alyssa) Morgan; Jarrod, Kyle, & Logan Boone; Andy & Emily Baker; great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Chloe, Alivia, & Lyla; and numerous nieces and nephews, several of whom shared her as their Godmother, as well as many great nieces & nephews. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, May 20, 5-7 p.m. at Hill Funeral Home, 220 S. State St. Westerville, OH and again Thursday, May 21, 12-1:30 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 313 S. State St. Westerville, with a funeral mass immediately following. Interment is at Blendon Cemetery, S. Hempstead Rd., Westerville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ohio Health Hospice.
