Obituary for Richard Lane

Richard Lane 1947-2023

Richard Lane

04/10/1947 - 03/25/2023

Our loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother Richard Lane fell asleep in death suddenly on March 25, 2023 in Columbus, OH. Richard was born in Ashtabula, OH on April 10, 1947 to Roy and Sylvia (Johnson) Lane. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Irene (Ray) Lane, sons, Solomon (Amy) Lane of Columbus OH, Rocky (Kristina) Lane of Loudon TN. Grandchildren, Parker, Kayden, Riley, Kamryn and Hudson, who he dearly loved spending time with. Sister Janet Baird of Louisville KY, brothers Terry (Julie) Lane of Irwin OH and Daniel Lane of Bakersfield CA, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law and mother-in-law Anne Ray. Proceeded in death by his parents Roy and Sylvia Lane and his sister Marjorie Lane.

Baptized as one of Jehovah’s witnesses on July 3, 1971, Richard was dedicated to sharing his hope for a future resurrection to life in a new order where sickness and death will be no more. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and showing hospitality to his spiritual family, including hosting a weekly Bible study group in his home. As a young man Richard enjoyed sports, playing golf, boating, fishing, gardening, and working in the yard. He was mechanically inclined and used his skills to provide a comfortable home for his family, and aided many in practical ways. Since Richard did not always have the influence of his father during his formative years, he made a special effort to be a great example to his sons, teaching them to be loving fathers as he was, and always being there for them so they could be proud to call him dad.

Richard graduated from Ashtabula Ohio High School where he contributed articles to the school newspaper. He had an ability to artfully express himself with words, had a witty sense of humor, and kept everyone laughing. He especially enjoyed vacationing with family and friends at the beach, sharing his love of seafood dishes. He will truly be missed by family and friends. We enjoyed sharing our lives with him and look forward to seeing him in Paradise!
