Obituary for Donald Fosselman

Donald Fosselman 1929-2023

Donald Fosselman

11/22/1929 - 03/25/2023

Don Fosselman was born to Ormond Dow and Laura Catherine (Inhoff) Fosselman on November 22, 1929, and was raised on the family farm in Perry County, Pennsylvania near the Juniata River.

He attended grades 1-8 in a one-room schoolhouse, graduating from Millersburg High School and enrolling at Susquehanna University at age 15 (he was tired of getting up at 4AM to milk the cows).

After graduating, he started a 38-year career with Farm Bureau Insurance, which was soon to become Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company.

He began his career in Harrisburg, PA, later moving to the regional office in Butler, PA where he married the love of his life JoAnn (Randlett) Fosselman and began raising their three children: Doug (Diane) Fosselman, Suzanne (Tim) McGuire, and Dow (Thelma) Fosselman.

In 1967, he transferred to the home office in Columbus, Ohio where he spent the rest of his career eventually as Director of Reinsurance and Director of National Accounts.

He was very involved in his community, including an extended stint as a volunteer EMT and fireman with the Minerva Park Fire Department.

He was an active member of the Church of the Messiah UM in Westerville and the JOY class adult Sunday school.

He and JoAnn retired to Fort Myers, Florida and were again very active with The Covenant and later New Hope Evangelical Presbyterian Churches, starting a new JOY (Jesus, Others, Yourself) class. They loved supporting missionaries, children overseas and sustainable farming programs.

Don had a passion for Civil War history, loved golfing at Minerva and Whiskey Creek Golf clubs and long walks with JoAnn.

He taught his family the values of hard work, faith, service and honesty. He will be reunited in heaven with JoAnn, his sister Mildred (Jack) Dale, and brother Jess. He will be missed by all, including sister-in-law Jackie Fosselman, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ray and Alie Randlett, nephew Dan (Claudette) Dale, niece Margy (Patrick) Kehoe and grandchildren Bethany (Zak) Morvay, Dr. Daniel (Krista) Fosselman, Dr. David Fosselman, Laura McGuire, Shannon McGuire, Cory Minton, and DJ Fosselman along with seven great grandchildren.

Family will receive friends from 4:00 PM for calling hours on Friday April 7, 2023, at Hill Funeral Home in Westerville followed by a memorial service at 5:00 PM.
