Please join us in celebrating his life at 11:00am on Wednesday, December 21st, 2022, at Hill Funeral Home, 220 S. State Street, Westerville, Ohio, 43081.

Visitation will begin at 11:00am, followed by a Memorial Service at 12:00pm.

Sherry and I are so very sorry to hear of Dale's passing. Dale was my boss for 18 years at Big Bear, and a good friend for much longer. We have many good memories of the times we spent together. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dale Hampshire 1936-2022

01/28/1936 - 12/15/2022

Hampshire, Dale Clifton, age 86, peacefully passed away December 15th, 2022. He was born January 28th, 1936, in Circleville, Ohio to Marvin Hampshire and Harriet Barthelmas. He is a graduate of North High School in Columbus and The Ohio State University. While at OSU, he was a standout player for the Buckeye baseball team. During the 1959 season, he amassed 7 triples, which still stands as an OSU single season record. He was a member of the Army Reserve. Dale worked for Big Bear Stores Company in Columbus for over 40 years and retired as Personnel Director.

 

Dale was committed to his loving wife of 65 years, Elizabeth (Kirchhofer) Hampshire. They enjoyed many trips together to Lake Erie, Sarasota, & Myrtle Beach, as well as once in a lifetime trips to Hawaii and The Grand Canyon. He really enjoyed spending time with her and his family. He was extremely supportive of his children and grandchildren in all their endeavors. Dale was an outstanding youth football and baseball coach who passed on his love for these sports to his players and fellow coaches. He also enjoyed golf and senior softball for many years, and he excelled in both. Dale was a huge Buckeye football and basketball fan who attended many games throughout the years.

 

Dale was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his true love, Beth Hampshire, brother Marion, brother Don (Shauna), sister Joyce (Jim) Lesky, daughter Lori (Al) Crock, daughter Lisa (Rodney) Sparks, son Dale (Jill), six grandchildren (Sarah, Benjamin, Rachael, Alexander, Aaron, & Luke), and one great grandchild (Quinn). Dale will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
