Jack Richard Gempel

Jack Richard Gempel, 87, passed away March 30th, 2022, with his son David by his side. Jack was born in Toledo, Ohio on October 12th, 1934, to Julius Richard Gempel and Catherine (Schisler) Gempel. Jack is an Air Force veteran from the Korean War Era. After his military service he went on to graduate from Otterbein University with a BSC in Math and Physics. Jack went on to work for AT&T as an engineer, during which time he earned his MBA from the University of Dayton attending night classes. He retired from AT&T in 1989 after 32 years of dedicated service. He then went on to work for Athena Travel Agency for another 4 years in Bexley.

Jack is survived by his adoring wife of 64 years, Nan. Sons, David (Terri) Gempel of Parker, CO and Douglas Gempel of Evansville, IN; Daughter, Susan Rees of New River, AZ. Jack is also survived by his brother, Thomas Allen Gempel; sisters-in-law, Irene Goodrich of Columbus and Lynn Stout of Liberty Lake, WA; brother-in-law, Jack Surratt of Westerville. Jack proudly leaves behind 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Jack was a devoted husband and a wonderful father. Jack enjoyed camping, boating, waterskiing and loved cheering on The Ohio State Buckeyes (Go Bucks!!). The place in our lives that remains in Jack’s stead can never be filled yet all the wonderful years we had with him overshadows the grief that resides there. He will be forever loved and always remembered.
