She is and always will be a wonderful woman who cared deeply for you Dad. I am very glad I was able to know her and will miss her until, like you, I see her again. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in the family.

Obituary for Carole Scheerer

Carole Scheerer 1948-2021

Carole Scheerer

10/23/1948 - 12/22/2021

Carole Scheerer was born in Highland Park, Michigan in 1948 to Mario and Leah Spano. She was the third child after Claudia and Marty. Highland Park was the home of Ford Motor Company at that time and it was a very thriving place when she was growing up. Mario and Leah (Lil) were second generation Italians. Leah’s family came from the Naples area while Mario’s parents were from Sicily. Mario was in the Army in WWII and served honorably on the European Front earning a Bronze Star for his service and bravery. Leah and Mario were married shortly before Mario’s departure overseas.
Carole had two children during her first marriage, Tina and Michael. Carole divorced and was a working single mother until she met her current husband, Mike Scheerer. One might say, soon after their first date, Mike asked Tina and Michael if he could marry their mother and they thought about it for a few minutes and said, “Yes, that would be okay.” So, we have Carole meeting Mike in early May 1975, on a “Blind” date, and by late August 1975 they were married and moving to Columbus, Ohio. Forty-six years, three months, twenty-one days and 15 hours later Carole would die of a Covid induced death.
Carole was preceded in death by parents Leah and Mario Spano, brother Martin and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Carole is survived by husband, Mike, daughter Tina Spano (Jerry Coley), son Michael Spano (Charlie Glaze), sister Claudia (Bob) Carney, sister-in-law Betsy (Marty) Spano, grandchildren Tony (Bri), Nick, Hannah and grand-daughter-in-law Michelle Spano, and great grandchildren Oliver and Tatum.
Carole worked several jobs while living in Columbus. She worked for The Limited, the United States Postal Services, a private Blind making company and a few others. She made friends wherever she went. Her dry sense of humor and her witty sarcasm could not be topped. She was a very funny lady that enjoyed making people smile. Carole’s cooking was also the tops in the land. Her dishes were always great even if the Chef herself considered it not up to her par.
Carole’s humor, cooking and loving ways will be truly missed by all who knew her.
