Mary Bivins Obituary - Hill Funeral Home

Arrangements

A private interment will be held at a later time in Kansas City, Mo. In lieu of calling hours, we ask that you remember a wonderful time you had with Mary, send us a note, or give us a call.  In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate a contribution to her Bivins-Walker Scholarship at Otterbein University, The American Bible Society, or the Heartland/Promedica Hospice Memorial Fund.

I worked with Mary for 16 years at Otterbein. She was a hoot! No one had a bigger smile or a better laugh! She was always a bright spot in Howard House. Such a delight!

Obituary for Mary Bivins

Mary Bivins 1922-2021

Mary Bivins

04/15/1922 - 10/09/2021

In peace, Mary joined her family in heaven on October 9th, 2021 at 10:18 A.M.

Preceded in death by first husband Garnett C. Walker, son Douglas Craig Walker, second husband Willard W. Bivins, and son William W. Bivins.

Survived by son Brian E. Walker, grandson Nicholas Walker, great granddaughter Ariana Walker of Phoenix, AZ; daughter Vanessa (Bivins) Stewart (Ric), granddaughters Lydia (Stewart) Marshalik (Ron) of Columbus, OH, Jasmine Stewart of NY,NY; daughter-in-law Eva Bivins, grandchildren Bradley Bivins, Brandy Bivins and great grandson Knox of Frederick, MD.

Mary was a loving, stay-at-home mother until her children were grown. She then went to work for the Otterbein University Alumni Dept. where her 'Everything Otterbein' life lasted for 38 years until she retired at age 85. The joy of her life was to be with the students. She did her best to attend every sports event, play, reunion, social event, and Cardinal Migration. Everyone became her extended family and she found the full expression of what it meant to be 'Mary B'. She treasured her honorary degree and established the Bivins-Walker Scholarship.

As a widow, Mary found a special home, community, and family in both the residents and staff at Feridean Commons, where she resided for the last 17 years of her life.

Our love and thanks goes to the Feridean staff and Heartland/Promedica Hospice as they surrounded Mary, and her daughter Vanessa, with love during her final days.
