Dearest Frank, Jan, Jude and Jackie and all of her kids, grands and great grands. Joyce made an impression on everyone she met or knew her. Although I only got to see her once a year for many years I have wonderful memories of her and tried to emulate her in a lot of ways. I loved her being your big sister and as I always counted myself in your family, too, I felt she was my older sister also. Sending you all hugs and prayers

Obituary for Joyce Ann McMonagle

Joyce Ann McMonagle 1943-2021

Joyce Ann McMonagle

10/05/1943 - 05/20/2021

Joyce A. (Spring) McMonagle, 77 of Lewis Center, OH passed away at home on Thursday, May 20, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Boston, MA in October 1943 to Frank and Lucy (Selvitelle) Spring. Joyce was the oldest daughter in a close-knit family, her cherished siblings are Frank Spring, Jan Zamecnik, Jackie Grecco and Jude Gallagher.

Joyce grew up in Pittsburgh, PA a serious and active student. It’s there that she met and eventually married her high school sweetheart, Jim, after graduating from Saint Francis College as a Registered Nurse. They moved their little family first to Decatur, Indiana before making Columbus, Ohio their permanent home. Joyce and Jim were married for 55 years, taking on life’s challenges together they were models for us all.

Joyce was at her very best when she was in the service of others. She began her nursing career delivering babies and teaching Lamaze, and later went on to manage the pediatric and prenatal clinics for the Columbus Health Department. She was a devoted leader, treating her team and her patients with care and respect.

Preceded in death by her husband, Jim; and survived by children, Erin (Jim), Tressa (Greg), Meri, Jimmy (Amie); grandchildren, Ian (Casey), Quinlan, Breaghan (Blake), Connor, Ryan (Olivia), Abigail, Mara (Caleb), Kieran, Maddy (Billy), Grace, Kaitlyn, JD and Caroline; and four great-grandchildren, Kylie, Kane, Parker and Elle.

Joyce was a brilliant woman, strong in will and spirit, she pushed us all to be everything that we could be. She never did anything halfway – the gardens she built around her homes said it all, complete with goldfish ponds and model trains running through them! She loved her neighbors wherever she lived and counted them as her extended family. In turn, they kept a watchful eye, caring for her, as she needed them in the end. Stan and Carol, Ingrid and Cli, Heather and Mike, Pitt and Trisha, and of course Kim! We all love you dearly, Mom!

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joyce’s memory to the COPD Foundation – in Loving Memory of Joyce McMonagle
