On February 22, 2021, Betty McFarland Egan Foster, loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away at age 90.
Betty was born on March 19, 1930 in East St. Louis, Illinois to Harold and Lucille (Smith) McFarland. Betty received her Associate's Degree from Florissant Valley Community College and worked as an Executive Assistant at McDonald Douglas Aircraft Company and Riverview Gardens School District. She married Robert (Bob) E. Egan on January 4, 1952 and they had one daughter, Monica. They remained married until Bob’s death in 1971. On June 23, 1973, she married C.Thomas (Tom) Foster and remained married until his death in 1998.
Betty loved the company of other people. She also loved the outdoors and loved cycling on the Katy Trail in St. Charles, Missouri. In 2002, she moved to Westerville, Ohio to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. To connect with new people, Betty served as a board member for her neighborhood associatio
n and also volunteered with the Westerville Visitors and Convention Bureau at the front desk. She was an avid reader and was a frequent participant in book clubs through the New Albany Library. Additionally, she became an ardent fan of The Ohio State University Buckeyes football team. Betty was preceded in death by her husbands, Bob Egan and Tom Foster, and her brother, Bill McFarland. She is survived by her daughter Monica (Egan) Roberts, her son-in-law Mike Roberts, grandchildren Dana and Sean Roberts, stepdaughters Alison Pahel and Donna Foster, as well several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
An interment will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project (https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org)
