Condolences

Condolence From: Linda (Dugan) Partridge, Fleetwood, PA
Condolence: As a freshman, I knew Joanne first as a slightly older, fellow student; and a few years later she became one of my first art history professors. I eventually made art history my career, in no small measure because of her kindness, clarity, and grace. She was a talented teacher and artist, and she left this earth far too soon.

Condolence From: Cathy Lord, Jackson, Ohio
Condolence: Joanne is on my short list of educators who truly shaped who I am today. The lessons I learned from her were not only about art history and design, but also life.

Condolence From: Sara Deever, Westerville, Ohio
Condolence: When I took art classes at Otterbein after retiring from teaching, myfriend for many years, Joanne became wise art mentor and more. I have wonderful memories of museum trips seeing art, sharing books, great conversations, laughter, shared Otterein history. It has been a blessing to be part of Joanne's final journey. I will miss her, but I believe she was ready to go. Rest in peace, dear friend

Condolence From: Mary Ellen Armentrout, Hilliard, Ohio
Condolence: Joanne and I worked together at Otterbein from 1987-1999. She was a good friend, dedicated professor and a wonderful mentor to her students. Her art is well known in the Columbus area and graces many public spaces. She lived travel, gardening and always had a zest for learning. Her life was a gift to all who knew her.

Condolence From: Elaine Stewart, Westerville, Ohio
Condolence: It’s likely that few if any of Joanne's Friends and relatives know me. I (and my husband) knew her through friendly and spiritual conversations.

What a wonderful, kind, fascinating lady she was! We first met one day when I was engaged in a volunteer Christian ministry and she was about to leave on a tour to Greece. After her return we talked about her beautiful trip that included so many art and historical sites, including so many from early Christianity. I didn’t get to know her as a professor, but l’m sure she was a wonderful teacher. I also know she was a diligent and talented gardener. She took us a little “tour” of her backyard one time. Beautiful! From time to time we would visit for a friendly conversation and were saddened when she told us of her cancer diagnosis a few months ago.

Please accept our sincere condolences on her passing. I know she surely has left a wonderful legacy. We will be out of town from Sunday on next week so regretfully cannot attend the calling hours.
I want to thank her niece (sorry I didn’t catch her name) for calling me today with the sad news. I appreciate that she took the effort to call me, a stranger. Sincerely, Elaine Stewart
