Margery Murphy

05/16/1942 - 09/11/2019

Margery Fisher Murphy, age 77, of Westerville, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at her home in Westerville. She was born on May 16, 1942, in Xenia, Ohio to Zebulon and Elizabeth (Weingart) Fisher. Margery attended and graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She taught for a short time before taking an extended leave to devote her energies towards raising her three sons.

Margery returned to education in the late 1970’s as a member of the teaching staff at Robert Frost Elementary in the Westerville School District. Always one to seek out new knowledge, she pursued and obtained a Master’s Degree in education from Otterbein University. She was actively involved in all aspects of the education system and served as a longtime representative to the Westerville Education Association (WEA), holding positions of Secretary and Vice President, and the National Education Association (NEA). Margery shared her love of learning for over 30 years with the children of Westerville before retiring.

Margery enjoyed knitting and crocheting and was always making baby quilts for family and friends. She also enjoyed going on cruises to the U.S Virgin Islands with her fellow educators. She remained active in her later years by participating in water aerobics with her “Girls”. Margery was always available to listen and to provide support and guidance.

Margery was preceded in death by her youngest son Jeffrey Andrew on January 15, 2013. Margery will be deeply missed by her husband of 56 years, Stanley Henderson Murphy; son Gregory, daughter-in-law Jani, granddaughter Delaney Mae, and grandson Grayson; son Sean Michael and son-in-law George Louis Hofferbert; son-in-law Cliff Lavender.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in memory of Margery F. Murphy be made to the Dementia Society of America by mail to PO Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901, or online https://www.dementiasociety.org/donate.
