Mark and I were close friends in high school. Although we didn’t stay in touch over recent years, I will always cherish the good times we had at Eisenhower and Delta. We had a lot of laughs, at times to the point of tears and not being able to breathe. He had a great sense of humor, was a loyal friend liked by all, and he will be truly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, and may they find strength and comfort in the memories of how Mark lived. I find peace in knowing that our time here is so short, and that we one day are reunited with those we love for eternity. See you later my friend.

Obituary for Mark Olson

Mark Olson 1960-2019

Mark Olson

04/29/1960 - 06/03/2019

Mark Alan Olson, born April 29, 1960, in Flint, MI to the late George and Barbara Olson, passed away on June 3 at Kobacker House after a lengthy and courageous battle with lung cancer. He is survived by his wife Beth, and sons Nick, Will and Sam, his sister Nancy (Wayne) Hemmingway, his brother Dave (Kelly) Olson, his twin sister Mary (Clay) Thompson and his sister Martha (Todd) Adams; father and mother-in-law Ike and Mary Claypool, sister-in-law Barb Claypool (Rob Varchetto), brother-in-law Isaac (Heather) Claypool; nieces and nephews Kristyn Hemingway, Katy (Ryan) Walter, Lindsay (Alex) Diaz, Leah Watson, Dan Olson, Sara Olson, Brian Thompson, Kevin Thompson, Dylan Thompson, Connor Thompson, Andrea Adams, Sophia Varchetto, Charlie Varchetto, Eddie Claypool, Emma Claypool and many other loving family and friends.

His long battle with lung cancer was emblematic of how he lived his life. He organized his treatments, documented the instructions and was thorough and precise in their execution. His positive outlook never, ever wavered and in fact it was often Mark who led the pep talks for those of us around him.

Mark was many things to many people. A charismatic leader, a trusted friend, a teammate, a golfing buddy, a cherished brother and a man of deep faith. But most important to Mark was that he was a loving husband to Beth and a devoted father to his sons Nick, Will and Sam. For the enormous size of his circle of friends, colleagues and relationships, it was his role as the gravitational center of his family that meant the most to him.

Friends may call from 3:00-5:00 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 6 at Vineyard Church, 6000 Cooper Rd. Westerville, OH 43081. Please park at the North Chapel entrance.

A special thank you to the staff at Kobacker House. Their loving care for Mark will be forever cherished by his family.
