Colonel (ret.) Joseph Charles Dooley, age 70, of Westerville, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2019, at the Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown, Ohio.

He was born on January 27, 1948 in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma to the late Richard L. and Alice M. (Topmoeller) Dooley.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years of marriage, Marsha (Hummel) Dooley; three children and their spouses, Erin C. and Nicholas Madigan of Westerville, Ohio, Kevin R. and Jennifer Dooley of Crestview Hills, Kentucky, and Meghan D. and Michael Kluse of Acworth, Georgia; nine grandchildren, Colin, Morgan, and Regan Madigan of Westerville, Aidan, Adair, Liam, and Killian Dooley of Crestview Hills, and Brady and Jodi Kluse of Acworth; also survived by his sisters, Janet (Dooley) and Ed Castellini of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kathleen Dooley of Houston, Texas, and Marihelen (Dooley) and Mike Monahan of Edgewood, Kentucky. 

Joseph was a 1969 graduate of Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. He earned his Masters Degree in 1976 from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri. He served 27 years in the United States Army where he commanded the 2nd Region ROTC Cadet Command in Columbus, Ohio, the 7th/15th Field Artillery in Fort Ord, California, and instructed at the United State Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. During his years of service, Joseph earned the Legion of Merit with one oak leaf cluster, the Bronze Star Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Army Achievement Medal/National Defense Service Medal with one bronze star, and the Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze stars.

A private burial for the immediate family will follow at the Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C.. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Alzheimers Association or The Wounded Warrior Project.
