Obituary for Boanerge Hernandez

A las 11:40pm del domingo 25 de Noviembre de 2018 en la Clínica de Cleveland, OH, el ilustre ingeniero y siervo del Señor, Boanerge Hernandez Castro, partió al eterno hogar celestial a los 69 años de edad, tras una lucha de muchos años contra la cirrosis hepática de origen no alcohólico (NASH) que se agravó en el transcurso del año.

 

Por 69 días corridos que empezaron el 18 de Septiembre de 2018 y contra todo pronóstico, luchó muy valientemente por su vida demostrando su gran fortaleza y fé absoluta en el Señor hasta su último aliento, con el cual susurró “Amén” y la tierna luz de sus ojos se apagó, cumpliendo así con la ley de la vida.

 

Boanerges nació en el pueblo minero “EL Limón”, en León, Nicaragua un 11 de Mayo de 1949. Hijo de Manuel Hernández Woodrooffe y Berta Natalia Castro Gutiérrez. Hijo de un pastor y una diaconisa, Boanerges creció en un hogar cristiano. Fue el menor de 7 hermanos (de mayor a menor): Ruth, Esther, Raquel, Rebeca (Q.E.P.D), Manuel y Donaldo. Más tarde su padre, formaría otro hogar del cual nacerían 2 hijos más: Saul y David.

 

Su padre contaba que quería un hijo llamado Boanerges, cuyo significado es “hijo del trueno”, porque quería recordar la memoria de su querido amigo y pastor Boanerges Aragón y al quedar embarazada Berta la siguiente vez, nombró al niño Boanerges, pero el niño murió al nacer. Lo intentaron una segunda vez y también el segundo niño Boanerges murió al nacer y no fue sino hasta el tercer intento que el bebé sobrevivió y llevó por nombre Boanerges.

 

La vida de Boanerges fue excepcional de inicio a fin. Desde muy temprana edad demostró capacidades mentales superiores; a los 3 años de edad aprendió a leer por si solo con unos paquines; sus favoritos eran los de vaqueros y Mandrake El Mago. En 6to grado él ya sabía de derivadas e integrales, que aprendió por su cuenta. En sus primeros años de infancia Boanerges también aprendió de su padre sobre la vida en el campo y también vendía maíz y tortillas para ayudar a su mama.

 

Cuando fue adolescente le interesaban básicamente los estudios y el beisbol. De joven se dedicó a los estudios universitarios y a trabajar para mantenerse a sí mismo y ayudar a su mama. Después del terremoto de Managua, Nicaragua en 1972, mientras trabajaba reconstruyendo la ciudad de Managua, conoció al amor de su vida Auralila Doña Espinoza y contrajo matrimonio con ella el 17/12/78. Se vieron obligados a dejar Nicaragua debido a la guerra civil de 1978 y emigraron a Venezuela donde procrearon 3 hijos: Pablo Boanerges, Natalia Sofía y Lila Carolina Hernández Doña.

 

A lo largo de su vida, se graduó de múltiples carreras con honores. Entre ellas: Doctor (PhD) en educación y Curriculum (Rochville University  2009), Doctor (PhD) en Administración de negocios (Saint George University 2000), Master en Docencia Universitaria (UNACAD 2009), Magíster Scientiarum en Estadística e Investigación de Operaciones (LUZ university 1981), Master en Administración de Empresas y Sistemas en Inteligencia Artificial (CIESE-URU-LOGICIEL 1990), Ingeniería Industrial (UCA 1978), e Ingeniería civil (UNAN 1972).

 

La vida adulta de Boanerge fue estudiar y enseñar en diferentes universidades de Nicaragua y Venezuela, pero sobretodo su vida fue predicar el evangelio de Cristo a todas las personas. Su mayor logro fue haber recibido la misión especial de ser ejemplo de su Hijo Jesucristo y cumplirla. Desarrolló los dones espirituales como ser maestro. Visitó a los enfermos, predicó a los presos, expulsó demonios, formó pastores y líderes.

 

Estudió la licenciatura en Teología (PACTO 1996), y la maestría y doctorado en Teología  (Seminario Teológico Nuevo Horizonte 2015-2016).

 

Durante 19 años que vivió en Venezuela, fue pastor de la iglesia evangélica Shalom, coordinador  de la operación Timoteo en toda la región Zuliana. Formó la iglesia “El Nuevo Nacimiento”. Colaboró en el ministerio radial cristiano (MRC) y tuvo dos programas  radiales semanales: el misionero del aire y Actualidades. Estudió locución y Productor radial. Fue ordenado como reverendo o pastor del evangelio el 30 de agosto de 1996 por la iglesia cristiana Koinonia de Asociación libre.

 

En Managua, Nicaragua colaboró como asesor pastoral en la Primera iglesia Misión cristiana y en la iglesia Cuerpo de Cristo. Formó líderes y fue maestro de biblia en ambas iglesias.

 

En Noviembre de 2012 emigró a Estados Unidos, donde vivió en la ciudad de Lebanon, Ohio al lado de su esposa Auralila y sus 3 hijos, quienes le sobreviven. Fue miembro de la iglesia bautista de Urbancrest, asistió a la iglesia Roca De Refugio en Lebanon, OH y fue maestro de biblia en la iglesia bautista fuente de vida en Mason, OH. Residió en el estado de Ohio hasta el último día de su vida terrenal.

 

Las demás anécdotas, estudios y legado de Boanerges quedan grabados para siempre en los corazones de quienes lo conocieron y en los de su amada familia. Lo extrañaremos siempre y estaremos eternamente agradecidos a él y a nuestro Dios por su vida y ejemplo.

On a Sunday night, at 11:40pm on November 25th 2018, at the Cleveland Clinic, OH, the respected  engineer and servant of God, Boanerge Hernandez Castro, departed to his eternal home at 69 years old, after fighting a long battle against hepatic cirrhosis (NASH) that lasted many years. From September 18^th 2018 to his passing, he fought with great perseverance over 69 days for his life, proving his great strength and absolute faith in God. With  his last breath he whispered “Amen” and the tender light in his eyes was no more, thus fulfilling his journey on earth. .

 

Boanerges was born in a mining town called “El Limón”, León, Nicaragua on May 11^th 1949. Son of Manuel Hernández Woodrooffe and Berta Natalia Castro Gutiérrez. The  son of a pastor and a deaconess, Boanerges was raised in a strong Christian home. He was the youngest of 7 siblings (oldest to youngest): Ruth, Esther, Raquel, Rebeca (R.IP.), Manuel and Donaldo. Later on,  Manuel would make another family from which two more sons would be born: Saul and David.

 

His father wanted a son named Boanerges, translated as “sons of thunder”, in remembrance of his dear friend and pastor Boanerges Aragón.  When Berta became pregnant, he named the child Boanerges but the child died upon birth. They tried yet a second time, but the second child, Boanerges, also died. It  was not until the third attempt that Boanerges Hernandez Castro was born healthy.

 

Boanerges’ life was exceptional from the beginning to the very end. At a young age, he showed great intelligence. At three years of age, he taught himself how to read  by reading comic books; he enjoyed reading Western comics but his favorite comic was Mandrake the Mage. In 6th grade, he already dominated Calculus which he learned on his own. During his childhood Boanerges also learned about country living from his father. He sold corn and tortillas to help his mom support the household.

 

During his teenage years, he was mostly interested in studying and baseball. He spent most of his time studying at the university and working to sustain himself and support his mother. After the Managua Earthquake in 1972, while he was working on the construction project of rebuilding the city, he met the love of his life: Aura Lila Doña and married  her on December 17th 1978. Soon after, they were forced to flee Nicaragua due to the Civil War and they migrated to Venezuela. During their time in Venezuela, Boanerges and Aura Lila had three children: Pablo Boanerges, Natalia Sofía and Lila Carolina Hernández Doña.

 

Throughout his life, Boanerges graduated from multiple careers with honors such as:  Doctor (PhD) in Education and Curriculum (Rochville University 2009), Doctor (PhD) Business Administration (Saint George University 2000), Master in College Education (UNACAD 2009), Master  Scientiarum in Statistics and Research Methods (LUZ university 1981), Master in Business Administration and Artificial Intelligence Systems (CIESE-URU-LOGICIEL 1990), Industrial Engineering (UCA 1978) and Civil Engineering (UNAN 1972).

 

Boanerges’ Adult life consisted of studying and teaching in different universities both in Nicaragua and Venezuela but most importantly, preaching the Gospel among the people. His greatest achievement was to have lived a life exemplary of Jesus Christ. He developed the spiritual gifts he was given such as being a teacher. He visited the sick, preached in jails, casted out demons and mentored other pastors and church leaders.

 

He majored in theology (PACTO 1996) and finished his master and PHD in Theology  (Seminario Teológico Nuevo Horizonte 2015-2016). During the 19 years he lived in Venezuela, he was a pastor at the Shalom Christian Church and coordinator of the Timothy operation in the Zulian region. He helped form the church “El Nuevo Nacimiento”. He collaborated in the christian radio ministry (MRC) and was a part of two radio shows: “El misionero del aire y Actualidades”. He studied radio broadcasting and production. He was ordained reverend August 30th, 1996 by “La Iglesia Cristiana Koinonia de Asociación libre”. Boanerges provided pastoral counseling at the “Primera Iglesia Mision Cristiana” and the “Iglesia Cuerpo de Cristo” in Managua, Nicaragua. In addition, he trained leaders and taught in both churches.

 

Boanerges migrated to the United States in November 2012, and resided in Lebanon, Ohio.He was a member of the Urbancrest church and also attended the church “Roca de Refugio” in Lebanon, Ohio. He was a sunday school teacher at the “ Iglesia Fuente de Vida” in Mason, Ohio. He is survived by his wife Aura Lila Hernandez Dona, and children Pablo Hernandez, Natalia (Michael) Planchart, and Lila Hernandez.

 

The rest of the stories and legacy of Boanerges will forever be engraved in the hearts of his family and those who knew him. He will be missed deeply and the family will forever be thankful to God for his life and example.  His personal testimony:
