Friends may call 4 to 7 PM Friday, October 5, 2018 at HILL FUNERAL HOME. Additional calling hour is 9:30 AM to 10:30 Saturday at Central College Presbyterian Church, 975 S. Sunbury Rd where services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday. Interment Otterbein Cemetery.

So sorry for your loss. In September, 1962 Dr Freeman administered our blood test for a marriage license. He took care of both of our children from birth. We did not have a pediatrician back then. He was our family physician until he retired. Dr. Bill will be greatly missed.

 William “Doc” Freeman, MD, 82 of Westerville passed away peacefully in his sleep at home, Monday, October 1, 2018.

​ A lifelong Westerville resident, Dr. Freeman was a graduate of Westerville High School, ’53, Otterbein College, ’57, and pursed his medical degree at theUniversity of Cincinnati Medical School, ’61. He also served our country as a member of the local Army National Guard as a Medic. Doc had a successful private medical practice in Westerville from 1962 to his retirement in 2000. In 2010 he decided he wanted to work again and took a job for the Gahanna Military Entrance Processing Service as An independent Medical Physician where he remained until his passing. Throughout his life he was active in many community organizations and took great pride in his involvement with each of them. These groups included the Otterbein “O” Club; Otterbein College National Alumni Association; Westerville Board of Education (President in 1973); Westerville Rotary Club (President in 1968); former Trustee for the Westerville Chamber of Commerce; Team Physician for Westerville South High School for over 30 years; Team Physician for Otterbein College for 40 years; served as Medical Director of the St. Ann’s Sports Medicine Program; served as Medical Director for the Village of Westerville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center; US Health Credentials Committee; the American Academy of Family Physicians; the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians; and Member and Elder of Central College Presbyterian Church for 45 years.

Bill was instrumental in establishing the Athletic Training Program at Otterbein in 1987 and assisting that area of study in receiving academic accreditation. In 1994, he and his family made a significant contribution to build a new sports medicine facility for the new addition to the Rike Center at Otterbein, in memory of his father and brother, known as the Freeman Training and Rehabilitation Center. Throughout his lifetime he was honored with numerous awards including the Jaycee’s Outstanding Community Service Award; the Westerville Rotary Club’s A. Monroe Courtright Community Service Award; the Otterbein College “O” Club Outstanding Service Award; and the Otterbein College Distinguished Service Award.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Ida (Swepston) Freeman; brother and sister-in-law, John and Margaret (Eschbach) Freeman; nephew, David Freeman and many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sheila (McMurray) Freeman; his loving daughters, Pamela (Mark) Chaffin; Cheryl (John) Hill; and Kathryn (Tyler) Clokey: his wonderful stepchildren, Michele (Michael) Hicks; Shane (Christy) Tucker, Shannon (Max) Thompkins; and Patrick (Whitney) Christy; his endeared grandchildren, Anthony (Kelley) Chaffin; Amy (Shaun) Weimer; Jennifer and Geoffrey (Brooklyn) Hill; Kaleigh Lewis; Cara, Cammeron(Jamie) and Connor Clokey; Kelsey and Cassidy Hicks; Neve, Aidan, Keely and Liam Tucker; and Kylanand Parker Narkavich; his sweet great-grandchildren, Marlee and Baylee Weimer; Tannyn Schaub; Geneva Hill; and Eden and Davie Clokey; special nieces, Gretchen (Jon) Hargis, Karen Sewell and their families; several wonderful cousins and their families; and his beloved close circle of friends.

Additional calling hour will be from 9:30-10:30 am on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at Central College Presbyterian Church, 975 S. Sunbury Rd. where services will be held at 10:30 am. Interment will be at Otterbein Cemetery following the service.
