Obituary for Melanie Sue (Riehle) Winegardner

Melanie Sue (Riehle) Winegardner 1976-2018

Melanie Sue (Riehle) Winegardner

02/23/1976 - 05/11/2018

Melanie Sue (Riehle) Winegardner, 42, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, May 11, 2018.  Melanie was born on February 23, 1976 in Westerville, Ohio.  She is survived by her husband Matthew Winegardner and daughter Mattison, parents Mike and Geraldine Riehle, grandmother Beatrice Franklin, brothers Michael (Cassie) Riehle and Mark (Megan) Riehle and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces; and preceded in death by her father-in-law Ronnie “Pete” Winegardner.

Melanie graduated from Westerville South HS in 1994.  She married Matt on May 24, 2008 and they resided in Bremen, Ohio.  They were blessed with their daughter, Mattison, who brought light and joy to their life.  In 2017, Matt built their dream home in Laurelville, OH, which they referred to as “the farm”, where she wanted to plant new flowers and start a vegetable garden.

Melanie will be remembered in our hearts for her warm smile, her contagious laughter, and a love of the outdoors.  A perfect day for Melanie and her family was a day outside hiking, canoeing, picking mushrooms and sitting by the fire.  She also loved cooking and baking, making strawberry jam with her mom, classic movies, OSU football, NASCAR, country music, going to fairs and to the Zoo, making holidays special for everyone with fun games and special gifts, and “girl time” with Mattie.

Anyone who met her could immediately see the delight being a wife and mother brought her.  She had no regrets. She said she married her soulmate and they had a beautiful daughter, and that being a wife and mother would be her legacy.

Friends may call at Hill Funeral Home, 220 S. State Street, Westerville, OH 43081 from 11 to 1 p.m.  Wednesday, May 16, 2018.
