Barbara Pearl (Thorne) Ruyan, 74, passed away with her daughter, Gina, by her side on April 23, 2018. Barb was raised in Somerset, Ohio and attended Somerset Elementary School through the 11th grade. She was part of the first graduating class of Sheridan High School in 1961. Barb is preceded in death by her parents, Hershel and Pearl (Stacy) Thorne and an infant son, Richard Gordon, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Robert Ruyan; children, Gina (Barry) Wortman, Vicki Gordon, and Scott (Wendy) Gordon; grandchildren, Nathan, Kyle, Cheyanne, Joe and Megan; sisters, Janet (Mike) Miller and Deb (Jack) Crist; stepmother, Shay Thorne; and many other family and friends. Barb loved music and enjoyed singing country music. She was a very talented vocalist and appeared with the Big National County Show. Barb was also lead vocalist for the Back Creek Band. She was a founding member of the Somerset Mothers Club and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She and her husband, Bob, enjoyed showing off their 1955 Crown Victoria at car shows and she loved to scrapbook and laugh with her friends. She was a hairdresser and cosmetologist for years with Guys and Dolls and The Hairitage in Zanesville, Ohio. Later in life, Barb worked at Huntington and Fifth Third Banks. A special thank you to Wesley Hospice for their loving care this past year. Barb will be greatly missed by all who knew her, and especially her infectious laugh. Friends and family may call from 3-7 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2018 at Frank Hill Funeral Home, 220 South State St., Westerville, Ohio 43081. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home, 203 S. Columbus St., Somerset, Ohio 43783 with Rev. William Haggis II officiating. Interment immediately following the service in Highland Cemetery, Glenford, Ohio. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barb’s honor to Wesley Hospice http://www.wesleyhospice.com, or to Alzheimer’s Association of Central Ohio https://act.alz.org.
