Phillip Baumeyer

03/04/1939 - 02/02/2018

Phillip Baumeyer, 78, of Columbus Ohio, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family at Friendship Village Columbus on Friday, February 2, 2018. Phillip (Phil) Earl Baumeyer was born in Springfield, Illinois to parents Earl and Bernice Baumeyer on March 4, 1939. He grew up as the eldest of two children and graduated from DuQuoin High School in 1957. He furthered his education at Southern Illinois University where he earned his degree in Engineering and graduated in 1961. On May 5, 1962, he married the love of his life, Ruth Ann (Brayshaw) Baumeyer, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and they resided in DuQuoin, Illinois. A month later, Phil was drafted into the United States Army and served in the United States and Europe from June 1962 through May 1964. Following his separation of service, he went on to work as a mechanical engineer. In 1980, Phil and Ruth moved to North Canton Ohio where Phil worked at Crown, Cork and Seal as a production engineer for 22 years until he retired in 2002. Phil is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ruth Baumeyer; sister, Judy Coffel; his two sons, Neal (Stacy), Jon (Jacqueline) & daughter Mary (David) Jones; and eight wonderful grandchildren; Jordan, Zachary, Nicholas, Alexis, Isabella, Hope, Kaden, and Daniel. He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl & Bernice. Phil’s family will forever remember him as a kind-hearted, generous, and loving father and grandfather. He had a passion for his work in engineering which helped him perfect his woodworking skills as a hobby and craft. In addition to woodworking, he had a love for anything and everything train related where he loved spending much of his spare time building model trains. His grandchildren will especially cherish the memories and gifts he shared with them in connection with these two hobbies. Additionally, Phil was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in North Canton then St. Joan of Arc in Powell when they moved to Columbus in 2012. The memorial service will take place at Hill Funeral Home 220 S. State Street in Westerville Ohio on Friday February 9, 2018 where visitation for family and friends will be from 6-7 PM with a short service to follow from 7-7:30 PM.
