Family will receive friends Wednesday, April 26, 2017 between the hours of 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM at Hill’s Funeral Home, 220 S. State Street, Westerville. Celebration of JoAnn’s life will take place 11:00 AM Thursday, April 27, 2017, at Church of the Messiah, 51 N. State St., Westerville. Interment will follow service at Blendon Central Cemetery, 6350 Hempstead Road., Westerville. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations to two of JoAnn’s favorite charities, WARM, and Mt. Carmel Hospice.

Brian, so sorry for your loss. I just heard last night, sorry I was not able to attend. As you know I lost my mother about a year ago so I understand. May GOD grant you, your wife and your family peace as you adjust to this loss.

JoAnn Chaney Swope, age 81, passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2017. JoAnn was born in Hagerstown, MD to parents Charles Leroy and Helen Stoner Chaney on August 10, 1935. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Lee Swope on January 23, 2010 after a 55 year marriage and her sister, Delores (Sis) Chaney Ausherman. Surviving family includes her two children, daughter Diane Lynne (Scott) Stauch and son Brian Lee (Jennifer) Swope, and two grandchildren Shannon Nicole Stauch, and Stephen Scott (Kate) Stauch. Also surviving is her sister Donna Lee Showe of Hagerstown, MD along with other extended family members. JoAnn graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1953 after which she was employed at Pangborn Corporation; Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown; then was employed with Westinghouse Air Arm Division in Baltimore, MD. After many years of raising her family, volunteering and Westerville community involvement, JoAnn enjoyed a twenty year career as secretary with Westerville City Schools. Throughout her time in Westerville, JoAnn volunteered time with Westerville Bicentennial Commission, Annehurst School PTA, Annehurst Village Civic Association, Children’s Hospital TWIG 55, Emmaus Walk, and Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Also, she gave of her time and considerable talents to Church of Messiah United Methodist Church serving on Staff Parish, funeral lunches, office volunteer coordinator and JOY Class member and one-time facilitator.
