Obituary for William Owen

William Owen 1945-2021

William Owen

06/28/1945 - 10/13/2021

Bill was born on June 28, 1945, to Marion (Hine) and Harold Owen in Eaton Rapids, Michigan. Bill loved his country and served four years in the U.S. Navy (1967-1971) as a Personnel man Petty Officer on a refueling ship stationed in Norfolk, Virginia and overseas in Italy. He then spent his 37-year career at General Motors.  Bill was a member of Westerville Christian Church where he volunteered for the Friday Fare backpack program providing weekend meals for families whose children are part of the free lunch program at their school. Bill was known for performing random acts of kindness and exchanged pleasantries and stories with every neighbor, waitress, gas station clerk, and teller that he encountered.  He was lovingly sentimental and never without his share of comical moments.  He wore a shirt that bore the phrase, “All who wander are not lost!” and that described him perfectly.  Bill enjoyed riding his bike across Ohio and Michigan and completed several century rides well into his 70s with his wife Carol and their many cycling friends.  Bill loved pretty much any food, euchre nights with friends, game nights with family, and miniature golf with his grandchildren.  He was a big sports fan and particularly loved attending live sporting events during which he was quick to scout out the nearest concession stand, almost always ending up with a ketchup covered hot dog.

William Thomas Owen passed away Wednesday, October 13, 2021. Devoted husband of 19 years of Carol Owen.  Loving father of William Scott “Scott” Owen, Tamara (J.C.) Ortiz, Benjamin Owen, Laura (Will) Mumper and loving stepfather of Carrie (David) Rasler, Paula (Bobby) Wonders, Kim (Jon) Zavislak and Keith (Stephannie) Roeser.  Adored Grandpa/Papa of Jesse and Josh Owen, Ella and Henry Ortiz, Riley, and Mabel Owen, Will, Ophelia, and Lucille Mumper, Justin Rasler, Jonathan Santiago, Tyler (Abbey) Rasler, Jonathan, and Charity Wonders, Maryn and Griffin Zavislak, Olivia, Elijah, and Isaac Roeser and great grandpa to Rylee Myers and Bentley Rasler.  Dear brother of Shari (Bob) Clough, Sharon Williams, Tom Owen, and Dave (Billie) Owen.  Stranger to no one.

He lived an extraordinary life full of faith, kindness, and random one-liners. He prayed for his children and grandchildren daily and wanted nothing more than to lead others to Christ.  Bill passed on his love of the Bible and relentless faith to his children and grandchildren.

“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth” – 3 John 1:4
