Jane Huston Franks, age 85, passed away Friday, October 1, 2021, following a brief stay in the ICU after suffering a stroke. Jane was born April 21 in Columbus, Ohio. She grew up in Clintonville and moved to Westerville in 1974.
Jane is survived by her husband of 64 years, Bill, and daughter Tina, along with two furry grand dogs –Jazzy and Jitterbug. She is preceded in death by her parents Arthur Blake Huston (Chicago, IL) and Ada Strader Huston (Columbus, Ohio). Unless the temperatures dropped, Jane could be found outdoors working in her flower gardens. Jane enjoyed being a test grower for roses. She was thrilled that this year’s gardens looked the best that she could recall. Whether wielding a garden pick, deadheading flowers, or dragging the hose around the yard to water – there wasn’t any task she wouldn’t take on.
Jane enjoyed working on genealogy with her daughter to discover more about her Irish ancestry. Having
never been on an airplane, she traveled vicariously through her daughter, who takes many photos and
videos. She was overjoyed to “see” and experience Ireland in 2017. Full of energy, she recently repainted the basement and helped her husband replace the suspended ceiling tiles. She loved cooking comfort food and baking cookies all year long and solving jigsaw puzzles during the winter. She enjoyed listening to Big Band music but also enjoyed Rod Stewart and Fleetwood Mac.
She was a proud alumna of the Columbus North High School Class of 1954– go Polar Bears! She enjoyed occasional visits to the Clintonville Women’s Club for lunch. Jane expressed the wish that we do not have a service or calling hours. There will be a private family celebration of Jane’s life later.
Bill and Tina would like to thank our friends, neighbors and colleagues who have offered support and best wishes during our unexpected loss. Also, a thank you to Riverside nurse Rachel and therapist Kaleigh, who moved furniture, machines, and bed around so Jane could look out the window in her
room to the retention ponds below and feel the sunshine on her face during her last day.
To honor Jane’s love of gardening and all things in nature, her family will be participating in the
Westerville Honor Tree Program as a remembrance.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the family toward the Honor Tree program would be appreciated.
