Obituary for Russell Miller

Russell Miller 1937-2021

Russell Miller

11/16/1937 - 05/24/2021

Russell Frank Miller, 83, of Columbus went home to be with our Lord on Monday, May 24, 2021.

He was born on November 16, 1937 in Lodi, Ohio to Thomas and Flora Miller and they preceded him in death. He graduated from Lodi High School in 1956 and served in the United States Air Force before meeting the love of his life Nancy K. Maple while square dancing. They married in 1960 and celebrated their 60th anniversary last October before Nancy’s passing earlier this year. Russ was one of 12 children and is survived only by his sister Bonnie Hinckley of Frisco, TX, and many nieces and nephews. Russ served in the Ohio State Highway Patrol for over 30 years before retiring at the rank of Major in 1990. He was a graduate of the Southern Police Institute of Leadership at the University of Louisville. He was a Master Mason, active in Scottish Rite and a Shriner. He held leadership positions in the Aladdin Shrine where he served for many years as the Executive Director and member of the Divan as the Recorder. He also was a member of the Aladdin Provost Unit and Northeast Shrine Club. Russ was a true gentleman who enjoyed people and had many friends who lovingly called him “Mr. Nifty” because of his always sharp appearance. He enjoyed golf, dancing, Cleveland Indians baseball, Buckeye football and Blue Jackets hockey. He and Nancy enjoyed winters together in their winter home in Lakeland, FL.

The family would like to thank Michelle Kane and all staff members of the Glen Unit at Parkside Village in Westerville, Ohio and the Capital City Hospice for the quality of care provided to Russ.

Donations in memory of Russ may be made to Aladdin Shriners Hospital Association for Children, C/O Aladdin Shriners, 1801 Gateway Circle, Grove City, OH 43123.
