William “Bill” Elwell, 85, of Westerville, Ohio died suddenly on December 11th, 2020 due to complications arising from COVID.

Bill was born in Avon Park, Florida where he also grew up and graduated from Avon Park High School in 1953. Bill attended the University of Florida and served in the United States Air Force. Bill went on to work as an air traffic controller in Miami, Florida and Denver, Colorado.  Bill retired in 1981 when he and the family relocated to McMinnville, Tennessee.

Bill had a passion for aviation, including flying his powered parachute across many areas. He also enjoyed amateur radio and was an avid Florida Gators fan.

Bill is proceeded in death by his mother, Florence Thompson Elwell and father, McKee Elwell, both of Avon Park, Florida. Also, his daughter, Christy Elwell of McMinnville, TN.

Bill is survived by his son Eric William Elwell, niece Betty Elwell Newsom along with other family members and friends including Barbara Kaelin, Jennifer Anderson, Paula Barnes and Jamie Hackley. 

The family wishes to acknowledge the kind and diligent care he received from Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital and the nursing staff at Parkside Village Senior Living.

In lieu of Flowers, the family asks friends and family to donate to your local animal shelter to honor Bill’s love for animals, including his dogs.

A private graveside ceremony for close friends and family members will take place at Mt. View Cemetery in McMinnville, TN at a future date.
