Mary Lou Binnig-Wood, 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 27, 2019 in Columbus, Ohio after a long and joyful life. She was born on July 6, 1936 to Herman and Dorothy (Martin) Spencer in Newark, Ohio. She married Neil Thomas Wood on July 13, 1978 in Richmond, Indiana. She moved to Westerville, Ohio in 2016 to be closer to family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Neil Wood, her parents and two brothers, James Spencer and Robert Spencer.

Mary Lou is survived by her children, Debra (Larry) Anderson of Indianapolis, Indiana, William (Kathryn) Binnig of Flower Mound, Texas, and Bruce (Elisabeth) Binnig of Westerville, Ohio; 8 grandchildren, Samuel (Heather) Binnig, Annelise (Michael) Taggart, Brandon Anderson, Lydia Binnig, Lauren Binnig, Timothy Binnig, Spencer Binnig and Preston Binnig; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

“Originality is the key to success” was the inspirational quote she wrote for her high school senior yearbook; and it’s how she lived her life. Mary Lou was an “original” with her family, in business and in the community. She built a nearly forty-year career as a trusted real estate professional in Richmond. She was past president of the Richmond Association of Realtors, past director of the Indiana Association of Realtors, winner of the prestigious Wayne County “Realtor of the Year” and recipient of the “Pam Frantz Good Neighbor Award” for community involvement. She was also active in the Central United Methodist Church, Kiwanis Club of Richmond, Leadership Wayne County, League of Women Voters, St John Lutheran Church, and the Wayne County Area Chamber of Commerce.
