 Family will receive friends Sunday, October 27, at Hill Funeral Home, 220 S. State St., Westerville, Ohio from 1 p.m. until the time of his service at 2 p.m.

I found this out just last week. I was very sorry to have read this. I knew Bill when I came to work with people with disabilities in 1976. I also remember besides his work in the DD field he taught at Columbus State for many years. Great person, very dedicated. Prayers to his family.

William Payne 1947-2019

William Payne

08/09/1947 - 10/21/2019

William W. Payne, Jr., 72, passed away Monday, October 21, 2019, after a long and courageous battle with head and neck cancer. He was born on August 9, 1947, in New Castle, Pennsylvania.

William was preceded in death by his parents, William W. Payne, Sr. and Kathryn (Holschuh) Payne.

His is survived by loving wife of 29 years, Kelly (Kennedy) Payne; daughters Jamie Payne, Carrie Payne; son Jeffrey Payne; grandchildren Katie Jones, Julia and Meghan Bee.

William graduated from Franklin Heights High School in Columbus, Ohio, in 1965, then was drafted into the United States Army and was sent to Vietnam where he performed duties of field radio repair. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device and an Honorable Discharge.

Upon returning to the United States, William enrolled at Mission Viejo Community College where he studied business.

William returned to Columbus, Ohio, with his family. Before retiring, Bill was hired by the Alpha Group in Delaware, Ohio, where he supervised people with disabilities to live more successful and productive lives.

The family would like to thank The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital and all the wonderful people at Brookdale Hospice who helped him through his journey.
