View VideoEncil “Red” Hawkins, age 90 of Westerville passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Bennington Glen Care Center, Marengo. WW II Army veteran, 23rd Regiment, Indian Head Division in the European Theater, fought in 5 campaigns including Omaha Beach on D-Day landing in the second wave. He is a two time Purple Heart recipient. Past Commander of The Linden American Legion Post. Red was an Iron Worker and member of Local Union 172 for 35 years. He also was an auctioneer for 35 years specializing in glassware and estates. Member of Columbus Wood Chippers, National Wood Carver‘s Association, Westerville Historic Society and Blendon Senior Center. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Joyce Rae. Survived by daughter, Lynda J. (James) Weissenfluh; grandchildren Lori A. (Ronald) Radcliff and J. Scott (Heidi) Weissenfluh; great grandchildren Rachel Radcliff, Reese Weissenfluh, Ryan Weissenfluh, Brandy (Michael) Willison and Ron Radcliff, Jr; 6 great great grandchildren; sister Eileen (Harold) Klatt; numerous of family members and long time friend Mary Koop. Friends may call 9:30 to 10:30 AM Saturday at HILL FUNERAL HOME, 220 S. State St., Westerville where services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday. Pastor Wayne Booth officiating. Interment Burnside Cemetery.
