May you find peace in the knowledge that we stand with you in your grief. Special needs parenthood is a club that no one wants to join, but few embrace it like the Hohman family. Your love and concern for Thomas were noticed by all. Your whole family allowed Thomas to shine and demonstrated love in action for his sweet soul. We are all saddened to see his light diminished at so young an age, but we know your example will allow his sweet spirit to shine on forever. May God bless you all.

Obituary for Thomas Hohman

Thomas Hohman 1995-2019

Thomas Hohman

09/24/1995 - 09/02/2019

Thomas Walter Hohman of Upper Arlington, beloved son of John and Mary Lynn, brother of Tina, passed away on September 2, 2019 at the age of 23 after an extended illness. He was born (copyright date) on September 24, 1995 in Columbus, OH.

Thomas' joys in life included spending time with family and friends, going to the Disney store, libraries and thrift stores, swimming, singing and having friends draw pictures for him.  He also enjoyed arranging and studying his vast video collection and watching videos of Sesame Street, Disney Classic movies, and Disney Sing-Along songs both from his collection and on the computer, often doing both at once trying to sync them perfectly. He also took numerous special trips to Sesame Place where many kind staff members, furry characters and friends made his trips memorable.

Thomas attended Step-by-Step Academy, now Boundless, a center for children with Autism for his primary years.  He then attended Upper Arlington High School, graduating in 2017.  For the past two years, he participated in a day program for special needs adults through Ability Matters. He was also a member of the Upper Arlington Special Olympics.

Survivors include his parents, John and Mary Lynn, sister Tina, maternal grandmother Nancy "Nana" Stewart, Paternal Grandparents Augie and Bev Hohman, Aunt and Uncle Cathy and Dale Owens, and many cousins and extended family members.  Thomas was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Jim "Pop" Stewart and uncle Tim Hohman. Thomas is also survived by all the honorary family members including close friends and providers who through their dedicated and caring efforts became part of the Hohman family.

Thomas touches so many lives. Without question, everyone who had the pleasure of meeting Thomas and getting to know him is a better person for that opportunity.  For all of those who made a difference in his life, hopefully, he paid you back by making a difference in yours. Thomas’ personality and kind soul had a positive impact on everyone who knew him.  He possessed a subtle sense of humor that brought laughter and often tears of joy.  He loved popcorn, chocolate chip cookies, goldfish and of course, don’t forget the pink lemonade! Even though Thomas will be sorely missed by all of those he left behind, we can be comforted by the thought that he is now in Heaven with his beloved Pop looking after him.
