Obituary for Richard Hogue

Richard Hogue 1924-2018

Richard Hogue

11/02/1924 - 11/25/2018

Richard Eugene Hogue, 94, a life-long resident of Westerville, passed away, November 25, at the Village of Westerville where he had resided for the past 7 years. He worked locally as a rural mail carrier for the US Post Office for over 50 years. Dick began his career when he found an application in a vehicle that he was cleaning while working for his father's gas station on State Street. Upon retirement, he received an award for driving over a million miles without ever having an accident.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Betty. He is survived by his daughters, Patricia Pringle of Westerville, Pamela (Michael) Purnell of Parma, Peggy (Howard) Berg of Manassas, Va, and Phyllis (Norm) Funk of Columbus. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.

Dick had many stories of his youth, growing up in Westerville, graduating from Hanby High School in 1942 where he met Betty who became the love of his life. He talked of an adventurous trip of hitchhiking to New York with friends, and his time in the infantry from '42 to '46 where he served in France, Italy, Germany and Japan. He will be buried at Pioneer Cemetery with his remains to be combined with Betty's. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, November 28th from 4:00-6:00 at HILL FUNERAL HOME. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Heartland Hospice.
