Family will receive friends at the Hill Funeral Home, 220 S. State St., Westerville OH, 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, August 10, 2018. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday August 11, 2018 at the North Cemetery, North Main St./Clifton Pike (Ohio State Rt. 72) Cedarville, OH (just North of Cedarville University.)

Thanks to Mike for the loyal support in working as one of my ward captains for the GOP. Also for being such a good citizen and a fine man.

Jon Mikal (Mike) Townsley, 80 of Westerville passed away August 6, 2018. Born December 28, 1937 in Cambridge, OH to Al and Doresa Townsley. Because his father had various government and school jobs, Mike lived first in Senecaville, OH and attended schools in Jamestown, Cedarville and Wellsville, OH. He graduated high school from Philips Exeter Academy in Exeter, NH in 1956.

In 1959 while attending OSU, he married Janice Wilburn. In 1960, he graduated from OSU with a BS in Accounting and was commissioned a First Lieutenant in the US Army Reserves. In 1962 he earned an MBA in Accounting at OSU. He then served 2 years active duty in the Army at Ft. Lee, Virginia and the Pittsburgh Air Defense Site.

In 1965, he rejoined Lybrand, Ross Brother’s and Montgomery (it later became Cooper’s and Lybrand). He moved to Westerville in 1966. In 1986 he was Vice President of Finance for American Municipal Power-Ohio. In 1993-2001, he was Director of Finance for the City of Grandview Heights, where he retired.

He and his wife, Janice, traveled extensively through all 50 states, Europe, the Caribbean, South America, Polynesia, Australia and New Zealand. He was an avid reader of history books.

Mike was a volunteer for the Boy Scouts, Chamber of Commerce, soccer clubs and a member of the Church of the Messiah in Westerville.

He is survived by his wife, Janice, of almost 59 years and children; Gregory, of Charleston SC; Douglas (Barbara) of Culver City, CA; Christopher (Cynthia) of Garden Grove, CA, and grandchildren: Lauren Powell, Reese and Kyle Townsley, Jennifer and Scott Biernbaum, and Maggie Townsley; a brother, Joe (Molly) Townsley of Weatogue, CT.

Family will receive friends at the Hill Funeral Home, 220 S. State St., Westerville OH, 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, August 10, 2018. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday August 11, 2018 at the North Cemetery, North Main St./Clifton Pike (Ohio State Rt. 72) Cedarville, OH (just North of Cedarville University.) In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the charity of your choice.
