Condolence: What a beautifully written obituary that describes everything I remember about Larry. I only had him for one class at Otterbein, but what I learned in his class I’ve carried and practiced throughout my lifetime. Sending prayers for comfort and peace for his family and friends.

Condolence: I enjoyed the one course that I had with Larry back nearly 50 years ago. He was a lot of fun and I enjoyed continued contact with him from time to time on campus following my graduation. He has left an enduring legacy at Otterbein. May God comfort his survivors and may Larry rest in peace.

Condolence From: Christina Kirk, Westerville, Ohio
Condolence: I count myself lucky to have had Larry as a colleague at Otterbein. He was my standard for what it meant to be a compassionate, caring and engaged teacher. Always bringing the fun and funny but never shy about evoking passionate inquiry regarding challenging topics. As a new teacher Larry was my role model and guide. After he retired I would enjoy seeing Larry and Shirley walking together hand in hand. During the frantic busy day seeing them walk together was always a reminder to stay grounded to what matters: relationships, love of each other, and appreciation for the beauty in the world. He has made our lives more beautiful. We will miss you, Larry.

Condolence From: James Brush, Washington, DC
Condolence: Larry saw the potential in every person and positive in every situation. He engaged people constantly, with a gentle, disarming charm. He could always get someone to smile, putting his perceptiveness on display in the service of forming a connection, no matter how brief. A true humanist, I try to emulate him, but too often come up short. My shortcomings get in the way. Larry seemed free of shortcomings. Though, I know he'd disagree. Still, I'd be satisfied to be more like him and to possess just a fraction of his many gifts.
