Morton Howard Klaiber

03/02/1929 - 04/20/2018

Morton H. Klaiber, 89, formerly of Waverly and Marietta, OH, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2018 at Parkside Village Senior Living Community in Westerville, OH. Born in Buffalo, NY, he was the husband of the late Norma (Pfeiffer) Klaiber and the son of the late Herbert and Helen (Daly) Klaiber. Mort's faith was very important to him; he met Norma in a young adult group at the church in Buffalo where they both attended and later married on October 14, 1950. They celebrated 63 years of marriage before Norma passed away in January 2014. He was an active member of First Congregational Church in Marietta before he and Norma downsized from the large house they built and in which they raised their five children, moving in 2005 to Bristol Village, a retirement community in Waverly, OH.
Mort graduated from Kenmore West HS, Kenmore, NY, and the University of Buffalo, with a degree in Chemistry. After his service to our country in the Army during the Korean War, Mort was a polymer chemist for Union Carbide Corporation in the R&D department for nearly forty years, first at the Linde plant in Buffalo, NY and then with the plant in Sistersville, WV. For overtwenty-five years, Mort and Norma were active Airstreamers, traveling the country in caravans and spending winters at Traveler's Rest Airstream Park in Dade City, FL.
Mort is survided by his five children, Kristen (late Ron) Spiker, Adamsville, OH; Marcia Klaiber, San Diego, CA; Mark (Michelle) Klaiber, Cato, WI; Lori (William) Dixon, Lancaster, PA; and Carolyn (Gary) Landsettle, Westerville, OH; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; a brother Harold Klaiber, Waterville, ME; and sister Carol Grace, Sunset Beach, NC. Preceding him in death is a brother Arnold Klaiber of Sugarcreek, OH. His family will always remember Mort as the "fixer of all things broken"- there was nothing big or small that daddy could not fix.
