A memorial service for Mrs. Tyler will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 17 at Worthington United Methodist Church, 600 High St, Worthington, OH 43085.  Friends may call at the church from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Worthington UM Church or a charity of your choosing.

Jean R. Tyler, 82, Westerville OH, passed on January 11, 2018.

Born and raised in Newton Upper Falls, MA, she graduated from Lasell College and later completed studies at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington DC.  As a certified Christian Educator and ordained minister, she served First UM Church Middletown, Monroe UM Church, and retired from Worthington UM Church.

Jean was active on district and conference committees, chaired the Board of Diaconal Ministry, and mentored Diaconal candidates.  As a certified lab leader, she was active in Teacher Training and Lab Schools.

Scouting was an important part of Jean’s life. She served as a Girl Scout leader, supported her husband Bill’s work in Boy Scouts, and was proud to see 2 granddaughters earn their Gold Award and 7 grandsons achieve their Eagle Rank.

She is survived by 3 daughters, Deborah Seckel of Westerville, Virginia (Mark) Taylor of Hilton Head Is., SC and Beth (Steve) Comminos of Middletown; 10 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; a brother, David Ryder of Massachusetts; a sister, Carolyn deHaas of Louisiana and a sister-in-law, Ida (Ron) Hurd of Nevada.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; a granddaughter; and a son-in-law.
